Apparently there's a wireless broadband for Heilbron and Frankfort in Free State. The highlands computers guys are selling 4Mbps uncapped wireless Internet at R500 pm. Must I cancel my 384kbps Telkom line?

why are you asking. do you want more speed. if you download a lot stay telkom.
if lightning [ regular modem goes] or cable-theft go wifi.

Who is the wireless network provider?

Stay with ADSL if you can.

You're going to battle with BF2 on a wisp.

I only got good gaming with my wimax(Screamer) recently.:D

I'll second that. The only wireless provider who seems to have their act together is Screamer otherwise get ADSL for reliability.

Apparently Screamer are in the Kroonstad/Welkom area. Does that cover Heilbron???

What! Does HEILBRON even have ADSL, or atleast GPRS reception?

Just joking, used to live there till I was like 9 years old :D - sorry for going off-topic, just surprised to see my ex-home town there... heilbron of all places :D :D Enjoy

Heilbron has got ADSL broer. We now got Wi-Fi!

If not, don't you get those Gogga things that work almost anywhere? It's like a dongle... :D

I know Blackguy is a BF2'er and gogga and even 3G is k@k for online gaming.

Tell these guys you wanna testdrive their network for a bit and see if it pans out.:D

I think that those guys use a Telkom ADSL line. They just extended their wireless AP. I am still interested but their price seem to be too high.

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw HEILBRON....... :o

I think Charl has got a few dedicated lines.
I tested connectivity to the AP that was on the Silo close to the school for my dad that stays about 10km out of town.

Speeds were decent. Only reason why he did not get it was that his other farm is about 2km down in a "dip" so there is no way of getting line of site from the one farm to the other. But like I said it worked great on the top farm.

Quite a few farmers that has got line of site to town is using it and then also people in town.

I know they have installed one at Sandersville School as well. They were negotiating with Sediba-Thuto in the township. I think they need to put up one AP either at Sediba-Thuto or somewhere nearby on that hill. I am sure there are few guys in the township already who are interested in a cheaper broadband connection. I am even interested to purchase the equipment and help them set-up an AP for the whole township. Bertus indicated to me that if Sediba-Thuto purchase the equipment and agrees to pay R500 pm for access, then people may purchase the connections at around R100 pm. Surely that's a good business proposal.

One can set-up an AP at Sediba-Thuto in return for a for free Internet access for the school and then make profit from people in the township.
