I wonder if the government will honour her with flags at half mast and all that? She probably wouldn't have wanted that, but they seem to do it at a drop of a hat for ANC figures.

Pity she never got to see the South Africa she longed for and fought so hard for. The ANC stuffed that dream up pretty royally! :(

may she rest in a better place.

at least she died in her sleep and not at the hands of some murderous rapist bastards as so often happens with senior citizens these days.

Like Garyvdh says, it's the result of what she fought for and I'm sure she died with a tear in her eye.

Helen Suzman

Helen SUZMAN born 7th November 1917 in Germiston and died 01 January 2009 at her home in Johannesburg, Gauteng. She was the daughter of Samuel Gavronsky and Freda David. She married Moses Suzman on 13 August 1937 and was educated at Parktown Convent. She was a Member of Parliament: Progressive Federal Party (re-elected); Dyason Lecturer: Institute of International Affairs, Australia; Gildersleeve Professor: Barnard College, Columbia University; Inaugural.
Helen had two daughters, one of whom is Frances who is married into the well known Jowell family. In Nelson Mandela's biography "The Long Road to Freedom" he said that "she was the first and only woman ever to grace our cells". Club Memberships: Landsdowne (Lon), Wanderers, Transvaal Auto, Houghton Golf. Recreational Activities: fishing, bridge, swimming
