Hows THIS!
For the past few weeks, Ive been experiencing really bad connectivity and my voice line works for an hour, down for 2 days.
Im DIK! So, after the techie left and all seemed well for the first hour (I had a dial tone!!), I decided to call my mom. Dead Line. So, yesterday I had had enough and decided that this crap has to end. I call Telkom and ask how I get my sevice discontinued. I was told to fax a request to 0860 105 778. I did this. The text of the fax reads:

To Whom it may concern.

Please discontinue all telecoms services (Voice and ADSL) to 0114xx xxxx effective 30 August, 2009. To confirm, please call me on 079 5xx xxxx.

This request is due to the fact that I have not had a regular service over the past 3 weeks due to various issues. I feel Telkom simply cannot satisfy my needs in terms of service reliability.

Thank You.

Brendan Ryan
ID: xxxxxx xxxx xxx

Imagine my surprise this morning when I decide to call work before I left home ... only to find my line discontinued. When I called to find out what the hell happened, I get told to APPLY FOR A NEW LINE! How SWEET! So, I speak to a different 'consultant' who says I should fax a letter to the same number again, and complain. I did. I just called back again and ANOTHER consultant says she will escalate this issue to a superior.

So now Im taking bets on when these idiots will get this sorted. I guess they'll call me in November to tell me that "The technician is here to reconnect my line".

I HATE TELKOM, so Im moving to either Voda3G or Neotel.

God help us all.

Telkom expects you to call on the day you want your line disconnected, not give them notice. However, you should leave the issue alone now, since you're lucky they disconnected your line so fast! Telkom likes to drag things so that you pay more in the long run! I call this a Bonus for you on your part!

Always better to go to the Telkom Shop. Putting a face to the problem works for me because then they become accountable. Phoning them you get a different consultant every time through the call distribution system. And when at first you dont succeed, ask for a supervisor and get his/her name. Fairly simple really!:o ;):erm:

Hellkom Strikes Again!!

Problem is, I thought that by giving the bastitudes a months notice, Ill have things sorted when Neotel / 3G is ready to roll. NOW I HAVE NO LINE connection! I wish I could sue them!!!

At least I have a tub of Vaseline!!!

Yeah when i asked for my line to get transferred they cancelled it and was told to apply for the new line :/

Funny thing was tho that when it got turned off my telephon line went dead on friday but my adsl line was still working the whole weekend, so i guess telkom can supply you with a ADSL line without a phone service :D

Yeah, especially with the employee strike that could take a turn for the worse this week...

Problem is... NOW I HAVE NO LINE connection! I wish I could sue them!!!

Call their Resolutions Centre on 041-505-6333 to sort out disputes... if you still want to! :p

BTW, are you getting 3G from MTN/Vodacom, or are you going to order it from Telkom? :D

ahem, resolutions centre? That number doesnt exist or isnt working :(
Does Telkom REALLY have a resloutions centre? I was told that I can submit a dispute re the dead line over the past few weeks.

Also, apparently ADSL works on ONE strand while voice needs 2. Thats why if 1 strand breaks, you can still use ADSL. Not sure how true this is, but a techie told me.

I'm surprised they got anything right with your cryptic replacement of x'es for real numbers. How on earth was anyone at Telkom supposed to guess what line to cancel, to call you on or what your ID is with all those x'es in the fax?!?!?!?! :D

When I called it a few minutes ago it rang. You probably didn't dial it right...

BTW, which replacement Internet service did you get?

telkom again... just an update.

okay, so I spent about 10 hours on the phone last week and finally got my internet back... BUT:
the phone isnt connected yet. It seems Telkom CAN supply ADSL without POTS!

Apparently, my voice account has been cancelled, but here I am browsing, albeit erratically :)

They promised me a technician will be at my home on Tuesday to fix it, but no sign of him yet. Im just waiting for the bill at the end of the month. Cant WAIT to get on the fone with 10210 and start using those BAD words I normally reserve for bad drivers and Manchester United fans!! :)

edit: I am moving to Neotel. Also, since I havent recieved the unit yet, Im sure I can cancel. Im actually prepared to use internet cafes until the NPO starts up.

OMG just don't go to Neotel! I would rather put up with Hellkom!

If ROBtell (aka neotel) took away their 2 year contract, they would probably find that 80% of this country would move over to them! BUT NO!!! They simply want to PROUDLY SCREW SOUTH AFRICA just as Hellkom do!...albeit a tiny bit cheaper...AND their service SUCKS! They are very unfriendly and obviously just want your money!

Neotel does allow u to get out of your contract... And theres no massive payment needed to get out... alll you do is pay R600 for the device and your contract is cancelled.

the contract is there so the user can get the device for free and also for market surveying and also to make money

well no one should be enforcing a "service" contract in these bad economic times!

Rather make the charge upfront for the device and then on a monthly basis.

So MANY companies here tie you down to contracts and if you lose your job, you could lose everything you worked so hard for..e.g. get your house sold to pay a stupid contract worth peanuts! I know of someone who had this issue with a security company and they had to lose everything because of a contract or two.

It is actually simple...when you see a contract...you usually see bad service!
My own experience with Neotel was terrible and I simply wanted info to join!

if only goverment would step in and hasten the enevatable (sorry, still can't spell;)) then, there might be hope for all of us in the adsl loop regardless of who your isp is. with their intervention we could even get adsl that's on par with some African countries as soon as just after the 2010 world cup.
or they can continue turning a blind eye, and doom it till after 2012

Even if they enforce LLU, Telkom's competition will have to roll out their own DSLAMs, etc as this is not part of the LLU.... How long will that still take?
