Hello 100Mbps

IMO 100 Mbps is a bit overkill as a consumer product unless you're constantly downloading large files that you need absolutely immediately.

It is, but I got it because I was bandwidth starved for so many years, I needed it to fill that massive hole in my soul that Telkom had created :)

Right now on my local ftth network ( https://www.mitsol.co.za/solutions/internet/ftth-open-access/?filtering=1&filter_line-speed=100-mbps ) 100mbit uncapped is around the same price as 50mbit - R999-R1999'ish ... if you have 50mbit, your line sits idle 90% of the time, 100mbit it sits idle 95% of the time - at some point I'm sure most the middle bits will drop away and we'll get (say) 20mbit and 100mbit internet for the 2 usage profiles (low/high)

nice.

could you share which powerline equipment you are using?

40-50 Mbps is probably in a sweeter spot in terms of price and performance at the moment. I'm just not sure if the additional cost of 100 Mbps makes it more worthwhile over 50 Mbps...

Agree, 40-50Mbps will get you 2-3 4k netflix streams.

The TM LTE deal @R599 is far cheaper from a value for money point of view when compared to Fibre.
I've also stopped chasing the fastest speedtests as we're managing perfectly(mainly streaming) with ave dl speeds of 20-30 mbps.

I'm in exactly the same boat and for R599 what a pleasure!

Would love to know what the OP is paying but should be around R1700 pm if not more

100meg must be great, but what about wifi bottlenecks?

My man!!! @OP: I have to agree with your article!

I've been on Vumatel's fibre since yesterday, got the Afrihost 50Mbps+ package and its cooking!

For some reason though my ping to the Mybroadband servers are quite a bit higher (like a whole 5ms) than what I get on Speedtest.net

I'm using my Vox special capped accounts and Openserve which comes to R1167 for 800GB of data and 100mbps Openserve FTTH - suits my requirements perfectly.

In case anyone that doesn't have it yet, wants to become even more jealous: https://shop.vumatel.co.za/

You'll see the pricing for Vuma ISPs, and Vumatel is known to be more expensive than Openserve.

BUT

Vumatel can go upto 1Gbps, where the other infrastructure providers cannot.
