Hello Darkness my old friend

Make an effort to do things that make you happy- reach out to people, resist the urge to hang out on your own and brooding. As much as you may not feel like it, do something physical like going for a run. As soon as the endorphins kick in your mood will improve. Exercise is an amazing stress reliever. Call a mate and meet them for a drink or a movie or a night out.
+1
When I get depressed exercise usually gets rid of it.
It feels like putting your hand on a hot plate when you start but after and hour and a half you should feel a lot better.

Also have times when I'm just depressed.

But I focus on the positive (in the past and present) and that cheers me up.

If I feel anxious or depressed, it's because I'm thinking of something negative happening in the future, to a point where it feels as if that thing has actually happened, i.e.: partner or family member dying, losing your job, becoming ill etc. It is pointless to worry about the things we have little or no control over, but that is easier said than done.

Do a few google searches for "present moment living". It's the idea that you live for the here and now, and focus on the certain instead of the uncertain. Meditation, as far as I know, also uses this principle centrally, in the sense that meditation is meant to allow you to focus your thoughts on exactly what is happening during this instant. Not what happened in the past or what might happen in the future, but what is happening at exactly this moment.

Check this chick out on youtube: She has an interesting series of meditation videos which are short and easy to follow:

I don't know, I have quite a controversial view on this.

I beleive that (in certain instances only) when a person is clinically depressed and it is proven that anti-depressants are a solution to some chemical imbalance in the brain, then great, take pills.

In all other cases, I'm sorry to say, it's bull*****. Everyone has problems, deal with them.

I'm a very extroverted person, if something happens which makes me angry, I shout and I swear and I get it out of me. I don't keep things bottled up. Depression is rage turned inwards.

When I first met my girlfriend, she used to very occasionally get 'depressed' about varsity work, etc, etc. Now, after being with me for two and a half years, it doesn't happen at all. It's all about your attitude. What are you getting depressed about? Get angry, take your anger out on the world, make money, do something with that energy.

Feeling depressed and sorry for yourself isn't going to help anyone. A pill, or a meeting with a psychiatrist isn't going to help either.

What is suicide going to help with for Christ's sake? There a people who've gambled away everything they own and they don't even commit suicide. Imagine all the pleasures life has to offer that you'd be missing out on?

Go out, be with your friends, have a beer.

Too true.i know too many ppl who dont know how to handle things and think its WORSE than any1 has ever experienced it.ppl always give me slack for the way i overreact and swear at work and stuff but if i didnt lose my cool in some case things would never have been sorted out.i know my bro needed pills at one stage but that was definete imbalance and he is now sorted.

Im just a little depressed this year as ive gotten NOWHERE with my social life...im stuck at the same point i was 2 years ago.no new friends and the especially no new ladies to chill with....i have like 1 real awesome 'gf' but im still way 2 lonely when shes not around.yeah i should go and BLA BLA BLA but im over it..... im tired of trying :p

To the OP - i hope you get out this rut and get things back in order.
i know its sad but sometimes just looking at the hobo's at the robots or beggars make me so greatful for everything i have.no i wont become a millionaire any day soon but lifes not all about the cash....f@#$@# no!
there is just TOO much to live for.....

Also eat well hey, depressed people tend to chow any crap they can find and do not eat well :D

Have some all bran flakes and fruit during the day. A healthy body is a healthy mind. I am sure junkfood is the reason depression is so massive these days.

How people deal with things and handle situations is dependent on that individual. We're all different, and we all deal things differently to one another.
Sure, someone might be feeling depressed for reasons which may seem pathetic to others, but that still doesn't change the fact that that person is depressed - for whatever the reason may be.

I don't think it's fair to shoot someone down simply based on the reasons why that individual feels the way he/she does. We're all human and all experience the same emotions - albeit for different reasons.
When someone asks for help, that's what we should give. If I were BlueGhost, I surely would like to have helpful and positive responses, not replies that are going to make me feel worse!

Hang in there BlueGhost! where there is darkness, light is sure to follow!

:( or maybe :)

Hope it's the latter. I dealt with depression myself, was prescribed medication...went and got the prescription at the pharmacy and put the bottle on my bedroom counter. That was my motivation every morning. Never took one pill. Started a load of new hobbies, got in touch with old friends and met up, used up all my leave days...then took unpaid leave...to just go away somewhere for a weekend. Then quit my well paying job to follow my life's passion.

Each person is different. Each situation is different. Hope the OP turns his life around...life is for the living. Live it.

I pmed the OP just in case. :o
I care too much.................................................................................*sigh*
