the black dog has struck - and I'm not feeling good :(

what's ironic is that this is the best time of my life - things cannot be better but ya the depression is back in full force

i'm behind at work , my honours studies is going pear shaped and everything is not the same anymore

i don't want to go back on anti-deps (been off them for 3 years now - weaned from them by my doc) but it seems yet again I need a pill to solve my problems (wish I can solve them myself)

and the scary thing is that I've been having suicidal thoughts again - wish that they would go away

One step at a time,
one day at a time

is what I do to survive falling into the pit
because nothing is darker or deeper than the pitfloor.

The suicide thoughts: I have them too, but I've decided long ago
that when I have these thoughts, that they are just symptoms
and that actual suicide is not what I want.

What I really want is:
- to talk
- to have companionship
- to be understood

You are not balancing on the edge on your own, come here,
take my hand, let's do this lonely insane dance together.

Come on, I'm holding out my hand friend

I think many forumites are SAD

You’ve probably heard about seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, which affects about 4% to 6% of the U.S. population. SAD typically causes depression as the days get shorter and colder. But about 10% of people with SAD get it in the reverse -- the onset of summer triggers their depression symptoms. Cook notes that some studies have found that in countries near the equator – like India – summer SAD is more common than winter SAD. Why do seasonal changes cause depression? Experts aren’t sure, but the longer days, and increasing heat and humidity may play a role. Specific symptoms of summer depression often include loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, weight loss, and anxiety

aren't you going for a holiday soon ? that should help you relax. i also remember you saying you've fallen in love? hows that going ? take it easy, you always got us here and these forums wouldn't be the same without your looney but sometimes inspirational posts

Dude, you have a 6 month holiday to look foward to, could just be butterflies in your stomach...
Any idea what triggered it?

+1

Something must have triggered this. It doesn't just happen.

I'm in a similar position as you Blueghost. I've never been on anti-depressants, just managed to plod through it all somehow. I'm sure this time will be no different.

I know it's easier said than done, but try to look on the bright side of things.

I don't know, I have quite a controversial view on this.

I beleive that (in certain instances only) when a person is clinically depressed and it is proven that anti-depressants are a solution to some chemical imbalance in the brain, then great, take pills.

In all other cases, I'm sorry to say, it's bull*****. Everyone has problems, deal with them.

I'm a very extroverted person, if something happens which makes me angry, I shout and I swear and I get it out of me. I don't keep things bottled up. Depression is rage turned inwards.

When I first met my girlfriend, she used to very occasionally get 'depressed' about varsity work, etc, etc. Now, after being with me for two and a half years, it doesn't happen at all. It's all about your attitude. What are you getting depressed about? Get angry, take your anger out on the world, make money, do something with that energy.

Feeling depressed and sorry for yourself isn't going to help anyone. A pill, or a meeting with a psychiatrist isn't going to help either.

What is suicide going to help with for Christ's sake? There a people who've gambled away everything they own and they don't even commit suicide. Imagine all the pleasures life has to offer that you'd be missing out on?

Go out, be with your friends, have a beer.

Take s couple of minutes every morning to think about the good things you have going for u. Thank god fo giving us the intelegence to create beer!!!! And stop reading the news. I tried this and after a week i was noticablly more positive. also try to be more spantanious and do things you wouldnt normally do, this will break the repetative cycle of eat, work, sleap ++;

+1 Avoid the news if you want to be positive.

You are so young, and want to return to anti-depressants, are unhappy, and see no future for yourself.

I bet that
- you come from an affluent family
- have never had any real problem in your life
- are spoilt rotten

What, exactly, is your problem?

take natural stuff like Melatonin for sleep and Theanine for relaxation. Plenty of natural stuff out there. Just ask your pharmacist to help you find something that works for you.

beer and good company always works for me, plazma some ppl are prone to this dont be so harsh! so lets try be constuctive eh!

Wtf s your problem? Depression and anxiety effects people from all walks of life.

It's a much different situation if you have been diagnosed with it. What makes it worse is when others put you down because they don't understand the condition. Imagine the feeling you get when you suddenly have to do an emergency stop in your car. Double the intensity of that feeling, make it last for an hour, even though nothing is wrong, and then you could perhaps understand.

Sometimes medication is necessary because the brain doesn't produce sufficient amounts of serotonin. Try telling diabetics to stop taking insulin. Your body doesn't produce something important which it needs, and so medication needs to be used to make up for the shortfall.

Make an effort to do things that make you happy- reach out to people, resist the urge to hang out on your own and brooding. As much as you may not feel like it, do something physical like going for a run. As soon as the endorphins kick in your mood will improve. Exercise is an amazing stress reliever. Call a mate and meet them for a drink or a movie or a night out.

As much as you may want to hide away from the world, it'll only make your depression worse. Well done for recognising your feelings- that's the first step to dealing with them. I would not recommend going on meds at all if the depression is able to be controlled (i.e. not a chemical imbalance).

Stay strong and reach out and try do something about it :)

Hey mate!
Some people are meant to be on meds.
From what you posted it seems that you might need to look at it again.
It is not something to be ashamed of!

You are so young, and want to post some drivel, you are unhappy and see no future for others.

I bet that
-you have an IQ of 20
-think the world owes you everything
-inferiority complex that shows itself through random personal attacks

What, exactly, is your problem?

You're pathetic!

Oi!
He mentioned that he was on meds before, so the case does show a history of depression.
Not all depression is related to emoism, mate!

Now apologise!
