I'm on a basic LAN.

I'd like to spy on the other pc. Is there any free software I could use to "silently" install it on the other pc and have a realtime view what it's doing?

I tried googling, but I think my search terms are wrong.

Thanks.
tera ;)

Try one of the remote VNC admin utilities - like RealVNC or UltraVNC.

The software can be hidden on the host.

not sure what kinda spying u want

you could search google for good keyloggers, it'll cost some dolla's but worth it

Nah, I don't want a keylogger, I want a realtime view of what the other pc is doing ;)

You narsty ol' voyeur you! OK, take a look at one of the many VNC derivatives in view only mode - at least one of them allows you to hide the tray icon that reveals its presence. Or Radmin has always had blazingly fast performance at this task, if you're happy to spend a little on this task.

lol ;) :D :p

I tried UltraVNC, but seems I have to install it physically at the other pc, I'd like to install it remotely, any tips? ;)

I think VNC has a "push" program where you can install it over a network. I'm sure you'll find it on Google... :)

From this page, old but probably still relevant with necessary path changes:
Radmin server does need to be installed. Here is a sample script for Windows, that installs Radmin server as a system service on the computer. Change the file paths to your values. To execute the script on network computers, use logon scripts in Windows NT/Win2k/XP networks.

1. net use z: \\server\d
2. copy "z:\install\Radmin\r_server.exe" "c:\winnt\system32\r_server.exe"
3. copy "z:\install\Radmin\raddrv.dll" "c:\winnt\system32\raddrv.dll"
4. c:\winnt\system32\r_server.exe /install /silence
5. regedit.exe /s z:\install\settings.reg
6. net use z: /delete

If you on a basic lan, and there are no firewall blocks then you use network connections to look at the folders on the other pc - eg search other pc for .mpg, .wmv .mov files - if thats the sort of thing you think is being downloaded :)

I thought there would be an easier way, tightvnc and UltraVNC is a mission, I'm running Vista.

Eish, I would not have expected a thread of this kind from you tera...

You'll need admin rights/leet hacking skills to do it over the LAN without touching the other PC. Do you have admin?

Conspirator, it's all in good fun. I just want to see where my bandwidth is going during the day, that's all ;)

I have admin rights, yes. It's at home, so I'll just wait until the secretary leaves :p ;) :D

OK. Surf over to the startup folder and put this in there:

This

That app takes a screenshot every second and puts it into c:\windows\temp

F1 and F11 together kill the app. Or if C:\windows\Temp\Stop.txt exists.

Can be seen under processes, but not on taskbar/applications.

It'll chow the HDD space pretty fast, so be carefull.

I'd did not test it really since that is a 2 min programming job.I've got XP no idea about vista

If C:\windows\Temp\ does not exist, eg C:\WINNT then it is a problem.

If you need modifications/source shout.

LOL!!!!!!!! ;) :D :p

You programmed an app for me? I'll save it for another project sometime, thanks man. For now, I'll install a trial of Netsupport Manager, which is the only Remote software I know how to use.

I'll just view it until the trial expires, will give me enough info to have some evidence ;)
