HelloPeter under fire

Well IMO companies should not put their customers in a postion where they feel the need to make posts on sites like HelloPeter. For far too long the SA consumer has been treated like "problems" rather than clients. Maybe it's time for SA commerce to start rethinking their customer service policy, and start giving their clients what they paid for.

Personally I don't really give much thought about HelloPeter, but if it "forces" (which it does not) companies to pay for their "mistakes" then so be it. Someone has to. This is easy to avoid by any company, simply make sure that "the client is always right" and rather than trying to pass the buck, solve the problem before it starts. Don't wait till you get caught out and then complain about it. If service levels or products are not satisfactory acording to your customers, do something about it.

Cheales disputes the amount paid to respond as not being correct, so what is it then?
He just says not unreasonable. By what measure exactly?

34 416 uniques a month? That is way lower than I expected...

I am not a fan of the Hellopeter website anymore either, his childish behaviour whenever he is criticised is a perfect example of bad customer service.

Here ago again... I bet its the companies that give the WORST service that are complaining... they don't like the bad publicity for the shocking service they provide.

You know what I don't get, if these companies don't like hellopeter's extortion, why don't they contract someone else to start a similiar site that doesn't charge, preferably based on a forum principal, where the individial consumer and company can discuss a complaint until its resolved.... let other consumers see the outcome, and decide for themselves if the 'company' is reasonable :)

So.......who wants to help me put one together?

ditto.

For R60 000 one could contract a web developer and build a very nice website indeed.

Exactly, and I'm sure the site could be maintained on sponsered adds... (by the companies)

call it... hellofrikkie.co.za

or hellojannie.co.za

It's extortion scheme - plain and simple.

I personally know of someone who had a complaint laid against his company on hellopeter.com which was totally unfounded.
You know ... those types of customers who will rant and shout at a waitress because their coffee was only 65 degrees Celsius instead of 70 or because their salad had 5% too little feta cheese in it.

So now to clear his name he has to pay R13500 ?!
That's small change to a large company but if you're a one man show it's not funny.

Well then what about legitimate claims? Like Friday where I had the phone on hold to Vodacom's call center for 3h30m? And I'm not a vodacom subscriber? Considering what my phonebill is going to be, I'm glad Vodacom gets nailed somewhere for their bad service.

EDIT: How am I supposed to get customer service from a company if I can't even get them to answer the phone?

as long as companies have to pay large sums of money to respond, it is extortion.

It's a silly destructive profit making site.

People get any, and gasp, post it on the internet. Like anything said in "forums" means anything in the real world [the irony].

Instead of wasting money and time on hellopeter companies should be making an effort to keep customers happy.

I've said it a 1000 times.... if these companies complaining gave good service, there wouldn't be a need for hellopeter. Yes, there are pointless complaints by people with to much time on their hands... but the majority are legitimate.

The whole site is a waste.. many times I have written complaints (especially to mtn)
And they have idiots who reply to you!

Not once has someone been able to sort out my problems/complaints from that site.
Seems the big companies put people that are barely literate to reply to your problems, and hence they cant even comprehend your problem :(

You cannot deny that Hellopeter does some good and provides irate consumers with an avenue of complaint.

However, the business model employed by Peter Cheales is devoid of integrity. It is corrupt.

A company providing bad service can get away with it by paying payola to Peter. Suddenly they are not bad boys any more, they are good boys, and bitter complaints are deleted. The frowning face becomes a smile. The company pays lip service. Suddenly they are on top of the "Companies that Respond" list. But what has really changed? Nothing. The bad service continues unabated, customers are now unhappy and voiceless, and Peter Cheales is financially enriched.

Extortion is exactly what it is. Not that my heart bleeds for the companies. But consumers get a raw deal once the target of their complaints decide to cough up.

Paying Peter does not equal good service.

Nobody is saying there isn't a need for hellopeter or a *customer-service forum* - it is the extortionate fees that are the problem.

Edit: What Gatecrasher just said.

These companies (not all, but many) have created the need for such a site due to their pitiful customer service. I personally don't have all day to wait "on hold for the next available consultant". If you were more customer-oriented hellopeter.com would not be able to extort money due to your ineptness.

If you want to sort out your problems with hellopeter maybe you should look at your business model first! Those companies that treat their customers as an incovenience instead of an asset are to blame and should suffer...

Well then... when is someone going to get of their arse and start one?
