hey guys,
i've been up all night even after taking 3 heavy pain pills and sleeping pills but this throbbing just won't go away.
The only thing that is keeping me from crying is swishing Jack Daniels (good ol Jack) in my mouth. It completely destroys the pain but once i spit it out the throbbing just returns.
I will have to see a dentist tomorrow as it's been giving me issues for the last 3 days. The guilty tooth is one at the back and it's kinda half crumbled already.about a month ago i was snacking on Sev and Nuts and it just shattered my tooth. I can honestly say i have never taken great care of my teeth :o There was no initial pain back then but now in the last 2-3 days i get intense throbbing at night especially. The tooth is obviously decayed and now is infected within.Ok bottom line is i've been reading up on root canals and they just sound damn scary?! If it's a back tooth can't they rather just pluck it out seeing it's crumbled aswell.can anyone share the delight of Root Canal? Toothache is something you just can't get away from.

if only i was not so ignorant and brushed my damn teeth twice a day all those years.

Root canals aren't that bad any more. They used to be something to really fear, but at the right dentist, you probably won't feel a lot of pain.

Depending on the condition of the tooth in question, it'll be quicker (and better) to pull it than attempt a root canal.

Depending on what the cause of the pain is the following works:

Swelling, aspirin is an anti inflammatory so will give pain relief due to easing the pressure (Can be dissolved on the affected area for immediate relieve or ingested for a slow but long term reaction)
Internal, Myprodol normally numbs the brain to receiving the pain message in the brain.

Home remedies like strong alcohol and "naaltjie oolie"* can be kept in mouth to numb the pain receptors immediately the second just have a longer lasting effect and can numb the area for up to 3 hours.

Now a tad late as you will be seeing the dentist today :)

* Also called "Tandpyn drippels" and can be bought over the counter at a pharmacy.

I have a few teeth that crumbled. Recently I had very bad toothache and all the pills I took made me ill and I ended up using Asprin which we had brought back from the USA, and that helped.

You will definitely need a root canal. Do yourself a favour and go straight to an endodontist because your dentist will likely just refer you to one especially seeing as it's a molar which are harder to perform successful root canals on. You also dont want another infection down the line due to a bothched root canal. Unfortunately as it is infected you will likely have to go for 2 visits to complete the procedure as the dentist will have to clean out the tooth and put you on antibiotics to nail the infection before he can seal and crown the tooth. I hope you have decent medical aid because a root canal will cost about 4k a tooth.

If your dentist/endodontist knows what he is doing the root canal shouldn't hurt at all. With my root canal it just felt like a filling that took a bit longer, your mind is your biggest enemy really as it kind of imagines the pain when the dentist is fishing the roots out with a piece of wire.

If its a wisdom tooth they won't save it. So out it will come.

In the mean time use one of those sensitive toothpastes (Sensodyn).

Aspirin is pretty much the same world-wide. :)

Grandpa powder is the best, takes the pain away in minutes. Tastes the worse though :(

Its also the worse thing to take. Relieve is only 3 to 4 hours and you will have to repeat. Side effect and damage not worth it.

When you have toothache pain you dont care if its a sledge hammer that takes the pain away.

Holding a disprin gently between your teeth often helps.

Let it dissolve there. Tastes sweetish, so not bad.

This will cause an aspirin burn in the mouth which often just compounds the pain. Drink it like you do for any other pain, otherwise get some clove oil from the chemist and some cotton balls. Soak the pellet in the clove oil and bite on it.

Once again, please don't leave aspirin in the mouth to just dissolve against the tooth.
