Hey all,

My case is pretty simple. My mom uses MWEB for her ADSL (contract so she cant pull out for a while yet). Anywhoo... I want to use Axxess LocalOnly. Now I know that I can set the router to function in bridge mode, and use PPPoE to dial in, but can it be done with 2 ISP's? The reason I am asking is because I have read that the usr/pass is stored on the router itself. It would be a pain to keep changing between the two...

Any info?

Plenty Thanks!

I use RouteSentry to log into both with PPPoE and seperate my local and international. Search for it as well as RASPPPoE to set it up in XP.

By 'default' you have a connection setup which the router dials to connect you. When you have the router in bridge that same connection is kept, but any pc on the lan that uses rassppoe can have the router open another connection by witch it is connected - with that you have have many isp accounts.

as LancelotSA said you could use routesentry which would manage 2 accounts at the same time for a pc, for example having your local traffic with your local only and your international with your international account.

If you only need your pc to use local only rasspppoe would be enough though.

just a note, if the people dialing in through your line decides to download torrents etc, it impacts greatly on the perfomance of the other dialed in accounts, so be careful.

I always thought the line would be "split" in equal bits if dialing up with your own account...

Cool, thanks guys. Just got confused because when I got my new PC, I just went through a wizard to set up a pppoe account and it didn't ask me for a number or anything. just the username and password. Seeing as I would go through Axxess and not MWEB, I was worried that it would dial MWEB and I'd get a klap saying "worng usrname and password"... what not. But will try everything out and will hopefully be browsing this forum (and a little extra ;)) by tomorrow!

I don't know why everyone is making your life hard for you.

You set the router to Bridged LLC in the router gateway, usually 10.0.0.2 for Telkom routers and 192.168.1.254 for Billion routers, but you can find this in your router manual, enter username and password and change the settings.

Now you create 2 PPPOE dialup connections in network connections in Windows. You dialup to international (mweb) when you need it and dial up to local when you need it, but you can only have one connection at a time. This works easier if you've got 2 pc's, then you can have a connection on each.

That's by far the easiest way, use it that way for a few weeks then when you've snagged it move over to something more advanced like Routesentry ;)

I think some of the MWeb routers might be locked to MWeb...but those are few and far between.

Try skipping the Bridged mode step. On my router I can dial an axxess PPPoE connection even though the rest of the network is still connected to the normal WebAfrica account (Without bridged). This only works with some routers though...

That's called "half bridged" or PPPoE relay on some routers ;) If you can do that, then routesentry is the next step to take ;)

Sounds about right...only it wasn't specifically called half-bridge. I think they called it snap-bridging. Doesn't seem to like 2 connections on half bridged though, even with RASPPPoE & multiple connections set.

Can this work on a Telkom Mega(crap)100WR router?

Or should I invest in that Linksys one?

Some of the Telkom Mega100WR's handle bridging fine. We got one of the last ones to be offered for free on SIO and it does bridging without changing anything in the router's settings. We have 2 PC's connected and I can use PPPoE to connect to a prepaid account whilst the g/f uses the default ISP account which is set up on the router.
