R20 000 deposit.
R1 400 per month repayment maximum budget. (Exuding insurance)

I would obviously like to keep costs as low as possible for what would be a reliable car.

With the above statistics in mind I assume we are looking at around a R80k budget.

What should I be looking at?

Just saw a Peugeot 206 2006 138 000km for R55 000

How old are you? If you are guy and over 25 I'd suggest a Ford Focus 1.6si . 2008/2009 going for around R80 000. Very reliable cars and good looking too. And has space , you'll just compromise a bit on power because they are very lazy uphill.

I still recommend a Ford Focus 1.6 2008 model. The resale value is also not bad.

The Focus is very good cars, stay away from Peugeot (or anything french).

Cant go wrong with a Getz, i10 or Picanto. There's also the Chev Aveo if all you need is something to get from A to B.

I would agree highly with this point of view, especially seeing as the Peugeot / Renault dealership in CPT CBD has closed down again! Clearly there is either a problem the dealership owners have with the main companies, OR they're plagued by bad owners who take of the service & support for the customers who drive their cars.

You must always consider servicing and after sales support when considering to buy a new or used car.

2nd eg.: A mechanic I used privately back in the day, worked at a dealer that services TATA & Daewoo (or Hyundai) and he says that in the years he has worked in dealership workshops, he's never seen that many unhappy customers come back with complaints on cars. Also he noticed the very expensive charges for cars that are supposedly "economical choices".

So check up on that as well.

Go for a getz, im 24 and pay R580 for insurance. looking to get it lower though
