Hi,

I just bought myself a pointofview 9800GX2 screen card for a rather ludacris amount of money. I gleefully unwrapped it, ready to install, only to see that they don't feel it necessary to supply you with the cables you need.

It comes with one connector allowing you to plug in the 6pin power supply, but it also needs an 8pin power supply plug to run.

The package says "Please email us for an adapter". Sorry for the inconvenience caused...

Any idea on where i can get a cable? I though my odin p/s would have one, but my 8pin will not fit.

Thanks

Roddy

damn straight. avoid "point of view" products from esquire if i were you.....

I've mailed them, and am searching for a cable on the net.

Looks like i need an 8pin PCIe cable. Strangely this did not come with my ODIN power supply 550watt. Any idea's where i can it?

That is freakin low dude. That's the cheapest thing anyone can do to a hardcore gamer

i bought my 9800gx2 from esquire and it came with all the cables

email them dude

i have had no problems and neither have ppl i know who bought from them, another friend of mine bought a 9800gx2 just after me and he got the cable

point of view rocks man, not sure why your cable is missing

the really really painfull thing is that i just installed MassEffect, freed up my time this evening so i could really get into it and then this......

o btw esquire does not suck

they are the cheapest when it comes to vga cards

who does it say you must email? point of view or esquire?

let me ask this, did it come with the 8 pin?

on the card you need a 6 and 8 connector plus another 6 pin for the 8 pin if im not mistaken

lemme go have look

ok my 9800gx2 need a 6 pin connector direct into the card
then i have an 8 pin which needs 2 x 6 pin to power it

6pin + 8pin but you get a 8 to 6pin converter with some of the cards, so you'll need 2 x 6pin connectors free on your PSU, although a 8pin whould be ideal.

Does that refer to Esquire or Point of View? Either way, it's a damn disgrace that they don't include a simple power cable - similar thing with HP and their USB cables by the sounds of it...

eBay.com - seem fairly difficult to find on their own though, unless someone has a spare lying around.

I though my odin p/s would have one, but my 8pin will not fit.

AFAIK your 8-pin from the Odin is for an EPS/server motherboard - why, I don't know...

on the card you need a 6pin and an 8pin connected to it.

It comes with a single connector that changes two 4pin Molex's into a 6 pin adapter (same for a normal 8800gtx)

It then comes with a piece of paper that says "If you power supply unit has an 8-pin PCI express power that does not fit the GEForce 98000 GX2, please emailo us and we will supply you with an adapter" (i must email pointofview.com)

Thats it.

I bought a pretty decent power supply (ODIN 550watt) but this only comes with 6 pin adapters. The next power supply up is the 880 watt but costs about R1500, so i would really really like to get a 6pin to 8pin converter if i can....

killadoob

you mentioned you need 3x6pin cables. one for the 6 pin, and the other two for the 8 pin.

did you mod one of the other 6 pin cables to make it fit? if so, what do i need to do on my side?

I just recently bought a Corsair power supply, and it came with 2 PCI-E 6 pin cables, but they also have a little extra 2 pin sitting ready on the side should I need it.

You may be able to get a cable that converts 2 Molex into a 8 pin PCI-E, but where you would get that, I'm not honestly sure.

I do agree that it sucks that the cables are not in the box, that isn't fun at all. I can understand not putting in a VGA or DVI cable etc, but not putting in the needed power cables is just seriously low.

Good luck and hope you get sorted out soon.

nope roddy

my psu has 2 6 pin then i had another 6 pin which i connected to the molex, then i plug 2 of them into the 8 pin cable they gave me, plugged the 8 pin into the card

then i plugged my 2nd 6 pin from psu into the 6 pin on the card

phone esquire and ask why there is no 8 pin cable, also ask them if they sell an 8 pin

Sorry to Go off topic but how do you buy from esquire? I cant even see there freeking pricelists. . .

lets just say the cheapest 9800gx2 out there was 6999.00 ex vat from rectron frontosa and a few other places

then landmark had a 9800gx2 for 6499 inc vat

esquire are selling them at 4899 ex vat which is around 5.5k

on vga cards they are untouchable man
