Hi Folks
I'm ready to tear my hair out after two weeks of trying to get an ADSL connection. I applied for a self install 384kbps ADSL account. Within a few days Telkom phoned up and said everything was sorted. Being a bit surprised at Telkom's speed I rushed out and got a NetGear 834GT router.

When I got home, I set up the rather complicated filter, connected the power and fired everything up. I connected to the router, supplied the username and ID, and set the multiplexing method to LLC, VPI=8 and VCI=35 as recommended.

I checked the routers status windows, and it said it had negotiated and authenticated successfully and been given an IP address.

That's as good as it gets. I cannot get any actual data out the other side! Strangely enough, the router resolves the host name (ie the host name changes to an ip address in the browser status), but that's it. I cannot ping anything - it just time's out.

What I've tried:
different NetGear modem
router and ISP settings on another (work) ADSL line. Works fine
different ADSL account

The router reports -->

Please guys, any help appreciated!

pity, no solution in there as yet.
It's gotta be Telkom. I mean if I can connect the router in another location fine, but not here, how can it be the router?

Unless ISP accounts are line specific?

Got a pots filter on the line?

Ok, my utmost apologies to Telkom. I'm a dunce...
Telkom said once I had the ADSL modem connected, I should visit www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl. I though Duh! If I can access the net it's working!. If I can't...it's not! Welll er, that's not entirely true. The only site accessible UNTIL you verify the installation is www.telkom.co.za.

Once I'd accessed the site, entered my telephone and order number, and waited half and hour...all working

Sorry to waste your time guys...and slander Telkom unnecessarily....
