Hi all

After some careful consideration, I decided to buy a Hybrid Solar Inverter of Chinese origin- PW3024 24v 3000w. Currently running it with 4x 100ah batteries, and it runs as expected.

There are a few issues I would like addressed.

Firstly I see it comes with a USB & ethernet to RS232 ports.
As my machines don't have serial ports, I decided to use the USB port on the inverter, and connect it to the USB port, got a request for a USB to serial driver, which I downloaded & installed, however that's as far as I got. Watchpower detects the port that the USB to serial driver creates, but am unable to view any stats, so please someone assist.

Second thing, is that this when power is disconnected & restored, the inverter emits a beep so loud that I swear the entire neighbourhood can hear it, and that needs to be switched off, especially since the inverter/UPS is located in my bedroom, and I don't want it to wake me up, and I can't find how to mute the damn thing.

Please if someone can advise me further, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hopefully the settings have the option to switch it off and you are in.the best position to know if there is such an option or not. If there isn't then you will need to open it and physically disconnect the buzzer.

Very few UPS have the option to turn off the alarm or physically remove the small buzzer.

If you find it, just pinch/crush it with a pair of needle pliers. It's usually soldered onto the board and trying to remove it will cause damage.

Ive removed many internal speakers from UPS. MightyQuin makes a good point about potentially damaging your unit, but if you’re careful you can usually remove the tiny speaker with pliers as they are most often modular units on the board and not actually soldered on as often assumed. Find a YouTube tutorial to study and follow. Make sure you disconnect the batteries so you don’t short anything or shock yourself.
Long-nose pliers work the best.

Thanks guys, however I'm not going to remove anything, as the inverter is still under warranty, and tampering with the buzzer will void my warranty. I have read the manual, and they mention a mode in which the buzzers are muted, but what they don't mention is how to mute the buzzers.

Do you have any access to some kind of Management Console on this UPS?

How long is the USB cable? AFAIK, there is a 5m limit. Even 5m causes issues sometimes, and need to use a booster. Have you tried different cables?

No detail in the "manual" about how to go about connecting it? What about the supplier? Any help from that source?

I think he has connected it alright, he is just struggling to communicate with it through the Watchpower thing. What I have always encountered is that manufacturer manuals will tell you all you need to know about physically connecting the hardware and making it work, beyond that, how you integrate it with third party software to do other things, you all on your own.

Do not destroy the piezo tweeter inside your UPS
Ever
It is there for a reason
And not to just annoy you
In the case of a fault within the UPS or a fault with the batteries the speaker will sound an alarm to warn you.
I always put a big fat blob of Prestik over my tweeters, it muffles over 80% of the volume

I read the manual, and info there is more limited to the operation of the inverter, and doesn't cover connecting it to a PC in great detail. In addition to USB, I also tried the inbuilt RS232 port (Inverter came with an ethernet end,) I had a spare motherboard with a serial port attached. Put that motherboard in my desktop, connected inverter via RS232, and still nothing. Wonder if it's a Windows 10 problem with the serial port settings.

Pretty sure it is not w Windows 10 issue, as I have plenty of old test gear with RS232 ports connected and working on my laptop. It is mostly a settings issue, and laptops running too fast for older stuff. So, try and play around with the interface settings etc.
