Please could someone help me detect this layout. Purchased this laptop second hand and loaded my legal Windows 10. However all the keys work but dont match the physical layout on the keyboard. I suspect this layout is something close to Czech.

Thanks for the replies,

No joy on the Turkish or Portuguese layouts :(

can you find out where it was stolen from?

or google the model/part numbers?

I doubt it was stolen as it came with recovery DVD's and software and original power cable unopened or used.

Ive exhausted HP's website entering the laptops serial number and trying to lookup its layout.

I believe you can find the layout in windows if you are willing to test different available variations.

Or if you ain't got time for that, just install "KeyTweak" and remap your keyboard manually.

Dunno if this will work but I recall Ubuntu server having a test to map out your correct keyboard layout by asking you what keys you have on your keyboard and ascertaining which locale keyboard you have?

Just a random 'out there' thought that occurred to me as I was going through the list of unread messages

Thanks for the replies.

The portguese suggestions I think are accurate.

Excellent idea wabbit, im going to try that by booting off a live cd.

I tried the keytweak idea but the problem is that the glyphs printed on the physical keys are spread out on other different physical keys. Would have solved alot of stress.

You can buy US keyboard, unless using laptop in the same place, as external keyboard/mouse is more convenient.

Yes a ubuntu cd will do that in order to determine keymap.

The ubuntu suggestion returned profit!

It is portuguese. When setting the input in Linux to portuguese it works, W10 however has other plans.

Right now its winning. In both keyboard settings and advanced settings it still uses the plain old US settings.

Progress atleast.

Add portuguese keyb, change to it and set it as default. Then remove the standard US keyboard and reboot.

If you want the US keyboard as a secondary option just add it after reboot.

I have had to deal with Azerty keyboards in the past, which another level of nightmare

Eish Peon het dom gewees,

Next to time you need to right click and change to new set

:p :p :p :p

Legends the lot of you, thanks for the help. Wabbit, I get moist for you!
