Help FPS drops from 40 fps to 0 - 2 fps

It Happens in Starcraft and World Of Warcraft. Never happens in Guild Wars and other games.

I have Nvidia 9600m GT 1 gig and the temperatures stay below 90 degrees. Happens on cold days and hot days so isnt the weather

It happens at random times could be first 5 minutes or after few hours

Also find restarting fixes it so wondering how :P

Would be nice to know whats causing it thanks
 
only background tasks i have is windows defender, netlimiter 2, Skype and DAP downloader not sure if these would affect it

got no antivirus yet since my favourite one wasnt supported in vista, but seems it is now

Reinstall drivers. That is, remove them from add/remove programs or w/e it's called in vista, then run the installer for them again.

Off topic, but wtf is the point of a download accelerator in south africa? The ONLY time you need that is when your download speed is faster than the server's upload speed, if that server allows accelerators.

Nope, they do work. It's not always the server to blame but sa base internet issues. I love using a multi-threaded download manager to max out a line.
 
Get a stand that has built in fans etc...
 
See if you can find an application (Speedfan maybe?) that will set the fans in your laptop to 100% manually. That might help.
 
MSI After Burner is the app that I'm using to control the temperature.

90'C is quite hot for a laptop graphics card. My brother's Dell laptop also has an nVidia graphics card in it and after a few minutes of gaming the graphics card would get quite hot and then it would automatically switch to a slow performance profile, which would then result in his framerate going from 60 to like 5 - the same as you're experiencing.
I think he was able to adjust the performance profile to a lower one from the start, but he hasn't managed to solve the problem completely :(

hmm so definitely GPU related and not laptop itself
 
yes. I'm quite sure that its GPU temperature related.

Make sure that the laptop can ventilate properly and see if you can adjust the fan speed too.

Update:
I've just asked my brother what he did, and he said that he had to underclock his GPU & graphics card memory to keep the temperature down.
