Hello,

So I'm interested in getting a gaming PC. Since my laptop is long overdue and is pretty much dead. I want to build a tower. I'm mainly interested in gaming and I want it to be able to run most games at around 45-60 FPS, High settings.
If possible I want to do a little bit of recording but I won't be recording on intensive FPS games.

I'm sort of new to this whole thing and so I need some help as I don't know a lot about components. I wanted to build a PC like the Photon 2.0 (Check out Youtube) but the problem is some of the parts are not in South Africa. I would prefer if most of the suppliers deliver to Cape Town or are Cape Town based. My overall budget for the PC is around R5000-8000. I want to run games like CSGO, Unturned etc... Please get me a list together and I would be building. (I'm a beginner) I would like the most for my buck.

R5-R8k will buy you a basic desktop new, not a gaming PC. You will have to go used components in that budget. What do you have? Screen, box etc?

Joh, you know that top-end graphics cards cost as much as your entire budget, right? I'd also like to find a way to buy a Bentley for only R10 000, but it ain't gonna happen.

I see you having three alternatives:
1: You give up on the idea of gaming and breathe new life into your laptop with a memory upgrade and a new SSD (should cost you around R2 500 for a basic decent kit - I shared a thread here about my experiences doing just that to my laptop). At least you'll enjoy it again, and I'm guessing you're not currently using it for much gaming anyway right, if it's "pretty much dead"?
2: You buy a Sony PS4 instead and get a reasonable gaming experience that fits into your budget.
3: You scour gumtree and Carbonite for a secondhand fully-built system that's a few years old that somebody else is going to take the main hit on depreciation on (rather than your limited budget going onto brand new components).

~R6500 will buy you an i5-6500 CPU, H110 MB, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 450W PSU. You still need a GPU and that is the most expensive component in the entire system.

What do you currently have available that you can use, monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive etc etc?
Can you up your budget at all?

I am in a similar boat to this guy,
So I thought I wouldn't duplicate threads!

Im running on a laptop which should still play dota 2 and world of warcraft well but its dead, even own lowest settings and rendering it feels slow.

M17xR3
Nvidia GTX 460M
17.3-inch glossy (1920×1080 resolution)
Windows 10
Intel Core i7-2720QM quad-core processor (2.2, 6MB cache, 45W TDP)
250 GB SDD ( After Market Upgrade )
16GB DDR3-1333

I have more than enough memory and did the HDD update to SSD but although it boots up like a boss, it still can't handle gaming.

I am toying with the idea of putting the RAID system back into this laptop and using it mostly for programming now.

So I would like to build a PC, unlike OP I do know how to build etc, with already having an old gaming case and monitor ready to go.
My main question where is the best place to buy hardware from now-days?
I'd like to keep it cheap but I don't want to be buying 'grey' stock.

Here is my recent build, now saving for a card.I got a mobo with a 1gb onboard graphics so I can enjoy older games until I saved up.

Small error. Technically, it's the CPU that has the built in GPU. 1GB is from your ram.
