Help - hole in tire.

Just drove over a screw. It was about 1cm long I guess, maybe a bit more. I have removed it and it has not caused a puncture, but it has left a decent hole in the tire, which is the standard 15" one that comes with Citigolf Velocitis...

Do I need to do anything to fix the whole if it has not caused a puncture?

I remember a while back when I drove over a similar screw, it did cause a puncture. When I sent the tire in to be repaired, all they seemed to do was glue it up and reinflate it...

Can one get kits to do the same? Or should I not be so worried?

Nah - just get them to fix the hole - like killa says its fairly inexpensive.
 
Go to a tyre dealer and get a "gattor" put in the hole its cheap but will seal up the hole.
 
Is there a shop that sells this sealant, so I could do it myself?

Just that I am not gonna be near a garage any time soon...

How can you not be near a garage any time soon? You live on a kalahari farm?

Sorry. let me rephrase...I assume it will take some time to go to a garage...Don't PicknPay have some kind of sealant one can buy?

In terms of garage are we talking a normal petrol station? And I am meant to pay only like R25 ?
 
Do you really want to put your life in the hands of an off-the-shelf sealant? I'd rather let the pros have a look at it.

I wouldn't be happy with anyone less than a tyre fitment place doing the job, then I would put the tyre on the spare any way. Has nobody realised that a hell of a lot of Taxi accidents and deaths are because of blowouts??

henry : any decent tire place should be able to do the fix in abotu 20mins...
 
We had two nails in the rear tire of our Landrover the other day - just took it into HiQ and they fixed it in about 20 minutes at most - was R45. Worked like a charm :D
 
I went round to Continental. They guy took off the wheel and checked that there was no puncture. He reckoned it did not need fixing.

It needs to be said that the screw was not huge and it was in the thickest part of the tread - the tyre is two months old. He measured the whole and it did not seem deeper than say 3-4mm and abou 1-2mm wide.

So maybe I did not have to worry?

If the screw went all the way through the tire and caused air loss, then it will have to be patched. You will suffer from slow leaks until you patch it. Did he put some soapy water on it to see if there was air coming out?
