HELP! How to set internetvpn on Windows Mobile 6!?

Hey there. Firstly I have activated internetvpn by calling 155 and it is active under my vodacom4me profile. I normally use my HTC TYTN with windows mobile 6 on it as a usb modem by using the internet sharing program available. I have tried to change the internet access point from "internet" to "InternetVPN" but it does not connect! I think i may have a setting wrong somewhere. Can someone help?

The APN should be internetvpn and not "InternetVPN", having said that, there is no longer any difference between the internet APN and internetvpn, not sure why 155 are still provisioning for the internetvpn.

PS: welcome to MyBroadband :).
 
I did try lower case internetvpn as well and still didnt work. are u sure there is no difference between the APN And VPN anymore??
 
ok cool. how would i get an unrestricted NO firewall internet through 3g though? i need low pings!

You can call 155 and ask them to send you the application form, having said that, the unrestricted APN is not going to solve latency issues - that is not what the unrestricted APN is about.

What is it that you're trying to achieve apart from lower latency, some online gaming maybe & if so then which game is it and are there any ports that need to be open on your end of the connection according to the game's designers?
 
WEll yes for online gaming but its not a port problem since i have opened all ports.. dont even have a firewall active. I am using my HTC TYTN as a modem and generally am unhappy because of poor pings of about 500 ms overseas and also i get frequent disconnects all the time. I am write next to the main vodacom tower in hillbrow and yet it drops and i even get poor local pings. Also hsdpa signal is never constant forcing me to switch to 3g only (that helps for maintaining a connection with less disconnects but i still get disconnects).

You might not have an active firewall in place, but incoming connections would be blocked using both the internet and internetvpn APN strings, whereas the unrestricted APN's purpose is to allow incoming connections.

You need to check whether you need any incoming ports open for optimal gaming with this specific online game, otherwise the game might resort to some sort of fallback that doesn't work as well [e.g. different route & different latency].

Which game is it and where are the game's servers hosted [which overseas country]?

Unless there is special 3G-R'99-only setting on your phone, you should get HSDPA when using a setting like "3G Only" or "UMTS [only]" or "WCDMA", and if you stick to such a setting and make sure that the phone is oriented correctly and as close to a window for indoors use, then you should be ok, also avoid using Bluetooth for the modem connection between your PC and modem - rather use a USB cable instead.
 
yes i use usb and umts only but its really pathetic. lets forget about online gaming for now. i am talking about just plain surfing on the net and downloading files...i just get disconnects all the time. i am so fed up i am going to resort to HELLKOM for a landline. as i said i am right next to the vodacom tower in hillbrow (perhaps 500 m) and yes my phone is near a window.
 
The different APN's won't give better (or worse) latencies, so if you need better latencies for gaming you might be stuck.

The disconnects are most likely a signal level problem, or at least, that's what I would first check out.

The TyTN does have an external antenna connector, do I'd go for a high-gain antenna from Poynting with the relevant adapter cable.

If you have a signal level issue and the antenna helps (should), it should also improve your throughput and thus latency.
