Help! I need a better mobile data deal than Afrihost...

Technically they are losing money. If I wanted another 4gb I would need to pay R396 but with the bug I can get it for R117... That's like 70% discount

Hey guys,

I recently moved into a new house, and there are no landlines here. So I had to get a 3G setup. I need around 30GB a month. I ended up going with Afrihost's 10+10GB promo, hoping that I might be able to make it on 20GB, but I can't.

It's just shy of 500 bucks a month, which isn't bad, but the top-ups are absolutely nuts. It's an extra R990 for 10GB. That's just obscene.

So, what's my next step? I need 30GBs. I can't get by on less than that. I've got Afrihost's 3G Mifi goodie, so all I need a sim card. Any suggestions on what provider/package to go with?

I think we're still offering the best rates around, but we're not seeing enough demand for the bigger packages to justify launching them. One solution I guess would be to have two SIMs - dunno if that works out cheaper, or just wait for that time of the month when we run 2 for 1 topups for now.

If we see more uptake on high packages on mobile we'd probably be looking to offer bigger packages at a later stage :(

I guess. Afrihost isn't losing out with this "bug" which is probably why they haven't fixed it yet.

It's more money for them without having to do anything, so I guess it is a win win

Doesn't sound like it's making us money. Remember that for the most part we're offering Mobile Data below our upstream cost, so free data hurts us pretty deeply.

Thanks to everyone who was honest enough to report the bug - we'll have our Dev guys look into this ASAP :(

Works out cheaper to use the bug than topping up at the normal standard price.

downgrade your account to 250 meg, on the same day edit your package to something that is suitable and pay the pro-rata rate :) win, win for all ;)
