Hey guys,

I recently moved into a new house, and there are no landlines here. So I had to get a 3G setup. I need around 30GB a month. I ended up going with Afrihost's 10+10GB promo, hoping that I might be able to make it on 20GB, but I can't.

It's just shy of 500 bucks a month, which isn't bad, but the top-ups are absolutely nuts. It's an extra R990 for 10GB. That's just obscene.

So, what's my next step? I need 30GBs. I can't get by on less than that. I've got Afrihost's 3G Mifi goodie, so all I need a sim card. Any suggestions on what provider/package to go with?

A second Afrihost SIM? Get the 10GB package (5+5) for R297. You can't beat the no-strings-attached month-to-month packages from Afrihost.

Telkom Mobile 15+15 at R399,00 PM, unless I am mistaken. Also, the TM SIM will work in you MiFi device.

I want to try and avoid having multiple sim cards :/

And Greg, is that 15+15 all peak or is some of that 15 off-peak? I need 30GB peak...

15Gb between 5 an 11 and 15Gb night surfer. TM have a 50Gb month to month deal but the crack they were smoking when they dreamed up the price was past it's sell-by date. R1499,00 per month.

My Afrihost 20GB lasted until yesterday. I also feel 20GB is a bit too low for the top option. They need at least 40GB.

You can also check if you have Neotel LTE coverage. They have an uncapped plan @ R999 p/m
iBurst also has an uncapped plan @ R599 p/m

Alternatively. At the beginning of the month, downgrade the account to a 250mb account, then re-upgrade it to 20gb

Will get you an extra 20gb on the SIM for the month ;)

( This can also be done multiple times later in the month to get more and more data )

That sounds like a bug in their system.

A bug? I guess maybe. It'll help the OP though, and if Afrihost doesn't fix it ( They haven't for a while, even though I alerted them to it ), then I am going to share. It's been said on this forum somewhere too.

Do you have the necessary financial background to part with R1800 one-off, get a go-big 120 gig for R1800 (includes 60 gig data to be used during 5:01 am - 22:59, then the other 60 gig from 23:00 - 5:00 am but before departing with your hard earned cash make sure you have coverage. Go to your local store example checkers/pick n pay/ cna / jet / take along with you your rates and taxes *latest* or an affadavit stating you stay at the following address with your ID.

Purchase every SIM CARD possible from CELL C, Telkom Mobile, Vodacom and MTN! Make sure you have coverage, test out their service load money do the necessary bundle convert. Test their network to see if it is stable.

Also check if NeoShxt have coverage in your area...

CELL C also have the giganite promo R1800 includes 200 gig(50 gig to use during 6:01 am - 23:59) the remaining 150 gig from 00:00 - 6:00 am

Sorry but please explain this in a bit more details.

I'm on 10 + 10 and its also too little?

nvm :D

Yes, just change to any other package and then back to yours.

@louispires

I am currently on a 2+3GB package. So if I downgraded to a 250mb package now and then went back to the
same package later today I would get the additional 3.5GB (pro rata)?

Did you double check that they didn't double bill you????

Edit: Never mind. I saw in the pic that when you change back you get the additional data and you get charged pro rata as well. This is only a good option if you run out of data :P

Yeah, or if you need like 40GB

I guess. Afrihost isn't losing out with this "bug" which is probably why they haven't fixed it yet.

It's more money for them without having to do anything, so I guess it is a win win
