Im not sure if this is the correct forum,
But, I need to set up internet, I just moved to Somerset West Cape Town,
I also know of someone else who needs to get connected aswell,

I am looking for an unlimited internet package, ( I am online the whole entire day, I run a business online. )

Please give me some suggestions for who I should go with, & what I might expect to pay.
I was using AfriHost when living with my dad,

I would like to use wireless internet.

I dont have a telephone line, will I need to get one?

I dont download a lot of things, & im not too worried about the fastest intetnet.. obvisiusly dont want it to be slow & lag though.

Thanks.. Im not clued up when it comes to Internet

Sorry wrong forum...

Just joking...

You don't need an uncapped account as you say you don't download, You don't pay for time on the internet you pay for data used.

Isn't East London the capital of Cell-C broadband? Just get one of their solutions.

If you want wireless I would also recommend CellC or 8ta. I've heard that the CellC network is severely congested in some parts of the country though. Have a techie come over and do a speed/signal test first before you sign any contracts.

We have a number of access points in Somerset West. There's a link to our site in my signature.

For wireless via a cell network you would not need a phone line, thus 8ta or CellC with HSDPA/3G USB modem would be the best.
For wireless in the sense of using a laptop over a wireless connection via a modem you will need a ADSL line and ADSL modem/router with wireless. Then Mweb uncapped would be the best solution.

Going directly to Mweb and CellC (or other big service provider) is your best bet.

I love how the two older networks are not even mentioned

Yes 8ta and CellC are your best options, connect the USB modem up to a 3G router and you will be sorted.

Ok.. so maybe 8ta will be the best (I think thats Vodacom right?)

I dont actually want the hassle of a modem & phone line etc with ADSL.

Im not familiar with using a USB internet stick, I hope it is a reliable internet connection? & wont go on and offline?

8ta is telkom but apparently they are good. Not sure how reliable it would be, my VC 3g was horrible so I switched to adsl.

This looks like a very good deal from 8ta, http://www.8ta.com/plans/prepaid-data/60gbpromo/

The USB stick is simple to use, you plug it in, it installs the software/drivers on your computer and off you go.

For email sign up for a free gmail account as it stays with you even if you change service providers, if you are running a business and want your own domain name (mycompany.co.za etc) you can even use that with gmail for a small yearly fee if I'm not mistaken. Do NOT use the ISP email account you get given.

I have heard 3G is not the best if you skype a lot. Which I do.

Apparently WI-FI is something I must look into,
What do you think about wi-fi? & who to go with?

Also...Please take a look a look at this deal also & let me know your opinions :

https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/campaign/simple-3/index.do

(The R399 deal)
--will it be reasonably fast? (Note.. i dont download youtube vids, movies or songs or anything. I use it for skype, emailing & browsing.)

Thanks!

You won't need anything more than a normal 8ta 3g modem for what you are doing. It is perfectly stable to skype with - as long as you have good signal.
To check your signal the easy way, maybe take a trip to the closest telkom shop and speak to one of the sales people there. They will let you know how your signal is and can also hook you up with your sim card.
8ta prices are currently very competitive and from my experience (in Gauteng, Centurion) the connection is stable and pretty fast.
The two specials you should look at are the 60GB / 60GB package for R1800 (valid for a year) or the 2 year contract at R199/month. I am a strong believer in not signing contracts at this point in time with prices being driven down by ever increasing competition.

If you go 3G, try prepaid deals first.

Buy prepaid SIM card R1 for each ISP and small airtime to test coverage and stability. CellC has the most stable feed needed for Skype IMO, but good specials are not anymore. Currently only R399 3GB SmartData voucher valid for one year (not R400, it has one month validity). Good for testing, new specials might come later.

8ta can roam to MTN, but to use GoBig specials SIM must be converted to non-roaming and 8ta coverage is very limited. However deals are the best, worth to try. You can start with 2+1GB R149 valid up to two months. Sufficient for your usage, I think.

The best deal for modem is 8ta E367 R699, SIM comes free with modem.
