Hi guys,

Sorry for posting another topic about this modem but I've used the search facility and the posts that have been made about it doesn't really help me. So I'm hoping you guys can :)

I recently bought a Netgear DG632 Modem and I've updated it to Firmware 3.4.0. I've also connected a normal 5 port switch to the DG632 and from the switch I have 2 pc's connected to it. All of my PC's are running windows XP and have IP's setup for DHCP. I need to know the following:

If I want to use this Router to share my ADSL connection do I need to have it running in MODEM or ROUTER mode?

Does it need to run in PPPoE or PPPoA?

Multiplexing Method: VC based or LLC based?

I've read some weird things about this modem on this forum. Some people say you have to use USB to connect to it and then unplug it and THEN only does the ethernet connection work. Other people had to use it as "modem" mode but then got it to work in "router" mode but they never said how they did it. I don't really care about P2P software....basically all that I'm going to use this modem for is to play some online games while my dad surfs the net...i.e normal browsing...that's it.

Thanks guys!

How odd...i have one and left it on default settings and it seemed to work.

Try using the modem set-up wizzard on the http://192.168.0.1 page...it seems to work

If you are plugging in a router you would make the modem a modem.

Cheers

Got some more answers though.

Multiplexing method should be LLC Based and it should be set to PPPoE. I didn't plug a router into it....it IS a router already :) I just plugged in a 5 port switch so that I can connect 2 PC's to it at the same time. anyways...I think I know what to do now :) thanks.

Here's a quick diagram of what the setup looks like: 2 Computers connected to a 5-port switch, connected to the DG632 connected to the Telkom ADSL Line.

I had my dg632 running in router mode connected to a switch. Should be PPPOE mode, LLC, parameters VPI=8 and VCI=35. Make sure you put in the right username/password for your account.

Your PC networking options should be set to obtain address and dns automatically.

Hope this helps :)
