Guys, as per the title, I did a firmware update on my E61i (ofcourse I did a full backup before that), but after I finished updating I did a Restore BackUp. After reinstalling some of my applications I noticed that all my contacts have vanished. I then tried to Restore them (using Nokia PC SUite ofcourse) by only ticking 'Contacts', it does show that it is restoring after that the phone restarts, however when it turns back on, there is still nothing under my Contacts!!!

What is going on???? Please HELP!!!

just checking, but were the contacts stored in the phone or on your SIM? Is it possible the phone is now looking for them in the wrong place?

Hhhm, most probably the phone.

you are not sure? Can you find the place in your contact settings where you switch between the two memories? Check both of the storage locations to see if there is anything in either of them.

What size SIM card do you have?

Approx. how many contacts did you have?

Were there mutliple items stored under each contact name? (several phone numbers stored with each name?)

Also, I assume you have the Nokia software installed on your computer?

Go and look in the contacts folder on your computer (Under Nokia Phone Browser) and see if there are any backups in that contact folder.

Did you ever do a software synch with MS Outlook?

Did the restore work? Or did it just get stuck then the phone restarted?

And this might sound silly but did you try Contacts > Options > Copy To Memory Card?

Also you can manually stick it back in your phone.
Download Noki (Nokia Backup File Explorer) and pull out contacts from the backup file and tranfer it via Nokia Phone Browser to your Contacts.
Did that with my mum's phone and it worked.

Did you change the product code? This happened to me when I changed the product code.

256m. Over 150 contacts. Yes there are multiple items - hence I am pretty sure that they are stored on the Phone (not SIM)

No, Not synched with Outlook.

Can u pls explain the 'contact folder' step?

Sorry, I should have stated... the phone has to be plugged in to your computer so that you can browse the contacts folder. Did anything show up on the computer while the phone is plugged in?

I made a second backup of my contacts by going to that contact folder (under Nokia Phone Browser) and selecting all then going to a folder on my computer and pasting. Each contact was stored as a seperate VCF file.

If you get really desperate search for the .nbu file that the backup app made and open it in notepad, search for the name of one of your contacts and you'll see the data listed there. I just entered it manually off here as it was a new phone so I'd added less than 10 contacts, but I don't think I'd want to do that for 150.

150 contacts is not very many and if you have a 64k or 128k sim could easily fit on the SIM card even with multiple entries.

While the phone is connected via USB/Bth - there is nothing under my contacts (on the PC).

I really cant install 150 contacts manually. NO WAYS!!!

I have a 64k SIM (3G SIM) but it has NO CANTACTS on it!

I did try to Restore the contacts a number of times now but still nothing!!!

Here is the Restore Log:
Restore log:
Date and time: 2008/05/31 20:16
Data restored from the file:
C:\******\******r\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\ContentCopier\2008-05-31 ***** E61i.nbu

The following data was restored to the phone:
- Contacts

But after I 'ok' the restart - there is still no Contacts.

I did however BackUp the phone on my PC as well and I may try to Restore from there and see how it will work...

The Retore did complete but still with no contacts afterwards.
Yes I tried to do the Option/Copy thing but NOTHING!

I may try this Nokia Backup File Explorer thing though.. Let me google it...

Ok, I managed to install Noki and pulled my Contacts - but it saves them as a text file (240 altogether). So how do I tranfer them to my phone (I really dont wanna do this mannually guys). WareRabbit please help.

Converting .Csv to .Vcard contacts format?????

Ok, problem not solved. I did not realise that I only managed to get 50 contacts out of 240. I tried to battle with Noki but with no success.

I then remembered Shozu then extracted them, however they are in a .Csv format. How do I convert it to a .Vcard fromat in ordert to copy them to my Nokia?

Thanks guys
