Hi all, I eventually ran 3dMark06 on my home PC, and was very dissapointed by my score. I have thought that my new C2D system should be performing better than what it is, which shows in the sub 1000 score (think it was around 957 or something)

System specs:
Intel E6400 @ 2,13mhz (stock)
1GB DDR2800mhz RAM (single channel)
Intel Lemont board
320GB SATA HD
ATI Radeon X700 256MB GPU
Windows XP SP2

What score should I be aiming for on the above system? Is there a program out there for system diadnostics for finding bottlenecks? Please help...

the gpu is bottle necking the cpu... you might have a lot of background tasks running, so (where you see the time on your computer) close every thing, and i mean every thing... that way it's not sucking up your ram...

The X700 does not support SM3 either. That will affect your score as well.

x700 is a really bad card for 3dmark 06

also you could overclock your core 2 alot if you dont have an intel made mobo

It's not a gaming rig or anything, so not too fussed. I just expected a higher score for some reason.
Thanks for the input.

x700 ?? ummm ok.. neway u shud make certain ALL running tasks in the background r closed.. also, go to the extent of disabling unused ports in yr bios. U shud definitely oc yr proc, it can handle the punch, take it up to round 2.6..shud run stable with stock cooling. Do the ram also, but go easy. Finally pick up yr gpu and mem speed for yr card.. use the ati tool. That shud give u a decent mark.
PS. Doing the above for only benchmark scores is not really cool, as u hav 2 default everything after u get a gud score. My advise; save up for 8800GTS and sum zalman cooling and u'll hav a kickass rig :D

GPU = Graphic Processor Unit. Like the CPU of your graphics card.

Interesting info & comparisons on cards can be found here:

xeo57: I hope you're saving up for some english lesssons :D

U no care U no care but we hardcore gamers care :p

I disagree, as someone who's been playing PC games for almost 2 decades these days its all about who has the most expensive rig. Hardcore gamers play on consoles where the frivolous ranking of who has the biggest ePenis...I mean 3DMark scores doesn't count.

 Which part of my english u dont get?? Think u shud stay away from chat rooms ;)

This is not a chatroom. ;)

Even if you managed a decent overcock I doubt you'd get more than 1500.

Now that I do agree with.

Toxin, so do you think that a score of just under 1000 is about par for my system. I was just worried that I had a problem somewhere. Like I said, I am not too worried, as the PC is only used for general home use, ie: browsing, dl'ing, encoding, CAD, etc. I have nor plans for OC'ing or putting some huge, overkill GPU in.

I am busy building 3 new PC's for work, and the first one got a score of 2240, specs as follows:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz (stock)
Asus P5B Deluxe IP965 Motherboard
7600GS SILENT/HTD GeForce 7600GS
Kingston DDR2-800 2GB (2x1GB) nVidia SLI Ready HyperX
Microsoft Windows Vista Business 64-bit
Seagate 80GB Barracuda SATA300 8MB 7200RPM Hard Drive

In your case 3DM06 wouldn't be the test to use. It is very GPU dependent like the guys have said. If you want to test your CPU/computing power maybe try something like PCMark or Sandra.

I don't use benchmarking programs that much, but I think those two would suit you better.

if your not using it for testing why bother running an gaming benchmarks?

does your pc run fine, if so then all is good

Like I said killa, just felt that the computer should have been running a bit better than what it is. Just trying to check whether I had a problem somewhere.

I have downloaded PCmark, will give it a go. Thanks.
