I've finally decided to give in and come over to the PC side of things as opposed to more expensive laptops. My budget is around 20k. I want an i7, a blu-ray player and an HD screen that will do HD video justice. I also want a killer graphics card. Any suggestions?

Just take note that just having a bluray drive might not be enough to play bluray movies, apparently you also need a DVi out on you graphics card, not hundred percent sure about that though. But apparently its all to ensure that you dont rip the stuff...but not sure have never really worked with one

K well, here's just a baseline rig I quickly looked up so people can add/subtract suggest different parts etc:

Asus P6T - R2678
Core I7 920 - R2848
1TB Seagate - R900
Kingston Hyper-X 3 x 2Gb kit - R1837.63
2333SW - R 1903
LG GGC-H20L, DVD-RW, Blue Ray Rom, HD-DVD Rom, Sata - R1688.18
Coolermaster HAF932 - R1706.37
Corsair TX850W - R2020.88
ATI Radeon 4870X2 - R4216

Works out to just under 20K. Not too shabby :D

Looks gud but i say replace the screen for the 2494HS , its only a few hundred rand more and will take full advantage of the bluray player

ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme - R4600
Intel i7 920 - R3100
Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D 3x2GB - R2300
2 x HD4890 - R6000
Corsair HX850W - R2000
WD CAViAR black 1tb - R1100
Antec 902 - R1700
LG BluRay Rom - R1600
Samsung T260 - R3600

Looking good so far :D

1: I would rather spend a little more for either the P2350 or the 2494HS - with preference for the 2494.

2: You might want to budget for some CPU cooling - a TRUE black or so.

3: In high performance systems your choice of HDD is quite important. Is there any way to stretch a velociraptor or an SSD somehow? Even a small one will make seek/write times a lot faster.

Looking good so far guys. Thanks :)
With regards to the card, most of you seem to be suggesting 2X 48xx.
Would I not get "more bang for my buck" going for something in the Nvdia 2XX range? Oh, and the screen must preferably be able to handle 1080p, I want it to take full advantage of Blu-ray

How much more are we looking on spending if I go for an SSD as opposed to a traditional HDD?

I would go for the 2494 Sammy as it has HDMI in as well. i7 920, 3x2GB ram, I wouldn't go for such a high end board unless you're going to OC quite a bit, also wouldn't go for such high end ram either unless you're going to OC it.

The GTX275 is a very decent card as is the 4890. You should get one and see if it does the job for you. If not get another and XFire or SLI. Also a decent 750 watt PSU should be more than enough. Add a 150GB raptor and drop the large disk unless you really need lank space. Might even find a BluRay writer for around 2500 which might be a better idea.

SSD's are a waste of time and haven't reached maturity as of yet. Only Win7 supports them properly out of the box and a 64GB will cost you more than 3.5K.

Ati = value for money , all the screens mentioned are full hd and you need both a ssd and a hard drive . however imo ssd's are a gimmick , they are way overpriced - just get a decent hard drive

Raptor 150 or 300 would do the trick nicely.

Do you need lots of space or not?

they are NOT a gimmick! Yes they are damn expensive, but thet offer huge performance increases!!!

Moving parts vs no moving parts ?

not much of a competition!
