Apparently the guy is dead set against Macs running bootcamp. He says they're too hard to get on their network (meanwhile she school insists on each student having an iPad.

Might be an option. Thanks

Sorry wasn't referring to bootcamp, you can install windows 10 without bootcamp. Carbonite or bidorbuy so you can stick it to him.

Alternative @Flashgear :p

You sure your kid didn't intercept the requirements list and changed the specs before sending it to you?

What's the budget?

Our very own @Flashgear has a pretty well specced Dell Latitude for R14,500;
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8365U CPU (6M Cache, 1.60 GHz, up to 4.10 GHz, 4 cores)
  • 8GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM
  • 256GB M.2 PCI-e SSD
  • 14" FHD IPS Display
  • Intel UHD 620 Graphics
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • USB-C Thunderbolt USB 3.1
  • 3G/4G LTE Capable (With optional PCI-e modem)
  • Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit
  • 3 Years Dell On-Site Warranty

I'd try and see if something with an AMD Ryzen 5/7 won't suffice. These usually have better integrated graphics than the Intel laptops, and thus not having the need to look for something with a dGPU which will likely weigh more, cost more and have worse battery life.

HP Envy X360 comes to mind but I've only ever seen those in 13" models. You may need to do some digging but I do recall Asus Vivobook's being well specced in that regard as well.

Might be worth trying to find what programs the laptop will need to run and research if an AMD laptop would suffice in terms of system requirements

They say 15.6" is a must yet dont specify resolution.. watch the kids rock up with a 720p panel
..also, doubt a school would need anything beyond integrated gfx for kids. Now if the "kid" is at a college/varsity it might be a different story, but heck even most of those dont need a dedicated gfx nowadays.

If the guy cant get a bootcamp mac to work on any network (DHCP is real hard mmmkay /sarcasm), then i would question what he could teach the kids

The “guy” is clearly an idiot as there is no difference once it’s running Windows 10.

Not being able to boost as high?
The specification of i5 is meaningless, Intel completely destroyed that line of product differentiation.

No no, the statement was that they are harder to put on a network.

That is complete nonsense as Windows 10 is Windows 10 regardless of what it’s running on.

I know, the requirements are stupid, should be "Windows 10 since the software uses it" and then at least 1080p is recommended, quad core / 8 threads (add passmark or something as min, or better would have been blender benchmark since this is graphics design: https://opendata.blender.org/) recommended, 2GB graphics memory required (should have been said dedicated graphics card with that memory, listing some min versions or something), etc.
