So the kid's school sent me the list of things to buy for next term and one of them is a laptop that meets the following requirements:

Minimum I5 processor (current generation) , minimum 8Gb RAM, Wi-Fi enabled, Windows 10 64 bit is a requirement. Graphics minimum of 2GB, Screen size is important - nothing less than 15.6", No MAC, No laptop/tablet combination machines. Must have a mouse.

Any suggestions for something that won't break the bank (iow the cheaper the better)....

Do they want them to play games all day?

14" FHD is miles better than 15.6" HD.

What's this thing supposed to be used for? Those are some killer/clueless specs

Tell me about it - I've got a 17" 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5 lying around that I figured would be ideal, however, it's a mac.

If you search the web you should be able to find a guide to load windows and just get a sticker for the top cover or some thing. You could always go the secondhand route on carbonite

Is Boot Camp still a thing?
Bootcamp?
Apparently the guy is dead set against Macs running bootcamp. He says they're too hard to get on their network (meanwhile she school insists on each student having an iPad.

Might be an option. Thanks

I think the guy is confusing Boot Camp with Parallels.

Does someone actually come and check the label on the box? i.e. if you just let the sprog use your old Macbook with Windows 10 installed, will he/she be able to get away with it on a trial basis just to see how it goes?

Maybe, thanks. I would prefer something local (PE) if it's second hand though.

Hm I don't see anything on Carbonite within a close distance (60km). On Gumtree all I can see is this:
