So heres the thing, im looking to maximise my internet and if at all possible minimise my cost for said internet at the moment, with all the different options available out there I was wondering if my current setup is the most efficient and cost effective.

I probably use anywhere between 75 and 110gigs monthly, rarely exceed that if ever. I play ps4 games online, stream netflix and DL the odd thing here and there.

ISP: AFRIHOST
PACKAGE: 150GIG @ R299
SPEED :CAPPED 2MB

TELKOM COSTS:
ADSL 2MB LINE RENTAL: R144
TELEPHONY LINE:165

This equates to R608 Monthly give or take a few bucks.

Question is, am I on the right package, can I upgrade my speed while keeping my price the same or decreasing it? Should I leave it as it is? Should I consider a bundled afrihost package. So many variables to be honest its all a little confusing, worst comes to worst I leave it as it is unless someone points out a glaringly obvious change that i can make for the better that I have overlooked?

Well if you can time your downloads between 11:30pm and 7:30am, you get unlimited data on capped accounts, so you could probably get away with a 100GB package, which is R458 for a 4mb package. I wouldn't go lower than a 4mb line.

You won't go wrong with Afrihost or Axxess...

I have only ever had good dealings with afrihost so i am not dead set on changing ISP. Looking at their site it appears that I can get a bundled package through them as you say for R458 monthly + R165 to telkom for phone line , gives me a total of R623, effectively costing me R15 more per month for an upgrade to 4MB line. hmmmmm that would be a good option I think.

To push the envelope even further - is it possible to get that kind of set up at an even lower total cost?

Good Day Sukkafool,

We offer a 100GB + 100GB (night time data) capped package at a cost of R199.00 (data only), R349.00 including the 2Mbps ADSL line and R429.00 Including a 4Mbps line.

There are a few other options for you as well, perhaps have a look at the following link:

Let me know if you are interested in any of the listed packages.

Look into Afrihost Plus+, it's R99 a month and doubles your data. Not sure how the sums work but a 75gig and Plus+ may work out cheaper. After signing up you can bundle your line and data for a discount in the clientzone, if your line is with AH.

Will look into it, shot.

-4mb/s + 100 gig cap = R458
-Double data for R99 = R557 so you now have 200gigs and uncapped from 12pm-6am.

Double your line speed and data for R40 less :)

That would increase Total to R722 when factoring in telkom phone.

At this stage it looks like i may go:
4mb/s + 100 gig cap bundle = R458
Telkom @R165 =R623

That makes it a R15 increase on current expenditure, with the free data from 12pm as well as data rollovers i think i should be fine.

If I look at the afrihost site it looks like the 75gig is only available on the 1mb line. That wont work forme either.

I advise you to WAIT for 2 or 3 weeks so that the ISPs can sort out the IPC price reductions they are receiving from Openserve.

This will impact all ISP accounts and obviously on your decision as well.

Sound advice.....thanks.

Axxess has been pretty good for me, and they have very flexible options.

For your requirements I would go with 4Mbps + 100GB for R435pm (+R165pm=R600pm); that includes uncapped at night (12-6am) and 3 months data rollover which with your variability of 75-110 helps a lot. For an extra R74pm you can also go up to 8Mbps.

Afrihost prices are slightly higher but also less flexible imo.

I'm on Axxess and very happy but using the Afrihost portal allows you to change every thing easily. I would say Afrihost is the most flexible ISP when it comes to changing products.

Also Axxess requires a phone call to change from uncapped to capped and has to be done at the end of the month.
