Ok, so i've got a pretty important decision to make regarding my choice of graphics card.

There are two choices:

1. Get a 4850 with a zalman VF1000 to kep it nice and cool.

or

2. Get a 4870 without an aftermarket cooler.

which one should i go for?

If you have the cash the 4870 obviously, duh.
Just replace the thermal paste, and set the fan at your preferred noise/cooling ratio.

Thats like asking would you rather have a Golf 4 with window tinting or a Golf 5 without....Kind of obvious dont you think??

well... I think the 4870 is a much better choice, if you got the cash, I mean, it's got more power, and you can overclock that bad boy pretty far.

oh i was told that the reason why the 4850 overclocks like a lemon is the fact that it runs out of power when you overclock it. The fact that it only has 1 power plug means that you will end up using more juice when you oc :D

Is it possible that Sheepbot may genuinely be a bot that randomly generates stupid questions? :p

Oh ok you find it funny, perhaps you could explain to me how you were in anyway being grim by saying what you did? Is there a new slang word which has changed the meaning of the word grim?
Now honestly, I am not being facetious, i just really don't understand.. ??

Meanie! :p

I've just read a few reviews about both cards being rather hot and was worried the 4870 might overheat without an aftermarket cooler. I actually totally forgot about changing the fan speed settings :o My bad! Guess I wasn't thining straight when I decided to ask the question :(

I am not even going to reply to that, I dont have the time or energy to come up with a way to explain it to you....Anyway go for the 4870 dude, it beats the bejesus out of the 4850 ;)

Look the 4870 is still going to run hot, but their designed to withstand the temps..

hehe sorry dude, wasnt serious just taking the mickey ;)

Both those cards run VERY hot without after market coolers....But I would say get the 4870 and slap a after market cooler on when you can. Check out how it runs, and maybe you wont even need to.
