Surprise!

I need to make a pudding for a birthday party the weekend after next, and I've decided to make peppermint surprise. You know, tennis biscuits, whipped cream (or Orly Whip), caramel treat, and peppermint crisp.

But I want to rejuvenate it somehow. I want to make it a fancy peppermint surprise. Ideas?

I thought of making a peppermint surprise cheesecake. I don't think I will, but it was an idea. I could make the cheesecake filling caramel flavoured. But I thought a cheesecake is maybe too different, and people will just want a regular peppermint crisp.

Another idea is to replace one or two of the ingredients. For instance, I could replace caramel treat with cajeta. Cajeta is made when you mix a cup of sugar with a liter of milk, and boil it down to form a thick, milky caramel. Its like fudge the consistency of peanut butter - very addictive.

Anyone else have any bright ideas?

I'm just going to subscribed to this thread because I love peppermint tart or surprise or as I know it, heaven!

Interesting this Cajeta thing. First time I've heard of it. Quick google shows I will be making it soon.

Made it a few times, it is DELICIOUS.

Does not go well with the weight loss thread.

You do need a big pot though - at least 7 liters.

Nooooo too sweet!
I loathe peppermint desserts. Taste like mouthwash.
As for caramel and fudge.....

I always replace the cream with smooth fat free cottage cheese - makes it cheaper, healthier and less sweet - more like cheese cake.

I might do something like that, except for the fat free part. I don't think fat free products are healthy.

DO NOT GOOGLE URBAN DICTIONARY "PEPPERMINT SURPRISE"

You HAVE been warned...!

Will have a look later!

Maybe I'll change it from peppermint surprise to pepper mince surprise.

That will surprise a lot of people!

Well, you're trying to rethink a dessert that involves no real cooking to begin with, it's just several snacks that are combined into one metasnack. So why not try making all the parts from scratch? Peppermint Crisp is pretty horrible stuff, so really anything you do should be an improvement on that. A biscuit base is dead easy to make from scratch. Whipped cream it goes without saying is also easy. You already have the cajeta idea so run with that. And for the chocolate mint you could make a bark: http://www.browneyedbaker.com/grasshopper-mint-chocolate-bark/.

Don't bring it down like that! But yeah, I'm thinking of something along those lines. Except for replacing peppermint crisp - that I won't do.

I might look into making my own biscuit base and changing the cream up a bit. Maybe even changing from tennis biscuits to something else.
