I'm in the market for a new laptop and need some tips on what to go for.

I like the 11-13 inch screen size
It needs to be light
I prefer large HDDs but it seems I'll be stuck with 256Mb SSD
I'm keen on the tablet/laptop 2-in-1 combo idea, but may consider the yogo type options as well
Lots of RAM and fast CPU
Needs to drive a 23 inch monitor in extended mode at high res
Long battery life
Good support, preferably 3 year on-site, else carry in warranty
Win 8.1 Pro (needs to join Domain at work)

Anything else?

Yeah with those tiny ones you are probably limited to an SSD, usually an M.2 SSD. They go up to 1TB but are very expensive still.

Dell XPS 13, or the XPS 12 which can separate into a tablet.

It seems both XPS 12 and 13 have been discontinued.

Now considering DELL Inspiron 7348
Processor: 5th Generation Intel(r) Core(tm) I7-5500u Processor (4m Cache, Up To 3.00 Ghz)
Memory: 8gb Ddr3l 1600mhz (8gbx1)
Hard Drive: 500gb 5400rpm Hybrid Hdd With 8gb Flash
Graphics: Intel(r) Hd Graphics 4400_5500
Keyboard: Internal Us - international Qwerty Backlit Keyboard
Battery: 43 Whr, 3-cell Battery (integrated)
Wireless: Intel(r) Dual Band Wireless-ac 7265 2x2 + Bluetooth 4.0
Display: 13.3-inch Fhd (1920 X 1080) Truelife Led-backlit Touch Display With Wide Viewing Angle (ips)
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Single Language (64bit) English,
Warranty: 3 Year Next Business Day

Will need USB to LAN, HDMI to VGA, ext DVD and Win 8.1 Pro upgrade as well

Your thoughts?
Where can I pick this up in Gauteng for the best price?

Thanks. Looks interesting but is straying outside the budget, It seems this range might be a tad out of my reach. The Inspiron 7348 still seems to be the best fit between my needs/wants and price

The XPS 13 is much more affordable relatively speaking in the US. Prices in SA are a bit ridiculous. The XPS 13 Developer Edition with 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD and a 1080p display sells for $949.

Sorry to go off topic, but I always giggle a bit when people write Mb instead of Gb. :p

Imagine that, a 256mb SSD:love: Wow. Much speed. Many storage!

You still understood what I meant to say...
