Ok long story short, my line was activated yesterday and I now have the router (mega 100wr) connected and it syncs fine and I also did the verify adsl step. I entered my previous telkom dialup account username and pass in the routers webpage (the guy from telkom said I can use it) but now the only site I can access is telkoms. Did I miss a step or something? Please use plain english when replyin, this is the first time Im setting up a dsl connection so Im still learning.

It sounds quite like your username/password are either incorrect or not active. I'm not familiar enough with the mega 100wr though so can't help too much on that side.

If nobody here can assist, perhaps get hold of Telkom and ask them to walk you through it.

Ok Ill try again now, if it doesn't work ill phone telkom but ill also monitor this thread so keep the advice coming please.

Make sure Telkom have turned off the self install on your line or you will only be able to surf to Telkom's website.
Give them a call.

Redo the setup and input your username and pass again, that router come's with the telkom guest usernam and pass in it wich will only let you access the telkom website .... it sounds like the guest pass is still been used. Also maybe do the verification thing again, a mate of mine had to do it twice before it worked.

You shouldn't have to. If you're filling in your details in your router then it should be using NAT (Network Address Translation) to give all the PCs on your network or connected to it internet access.

In network connections I right click the one that relates to my dsl connection and click 'status' and it shows an ip address of 10.0.0.1..is that right? Above that it says assigned by DHCP. I dont know what this stuff means and I need help. :(

hi feo,

Installed mine approx 1wk ago. If you had a 56k dail-up previously - won't work. Have to cancell that account and get new details. Alteernatively they can convert your old acc. Best way though is to cancell it forthwith. Then enter your Router's IP in IE adddress bar (normally 10.0.0.2, seems yours is 10.0.0.1). Default usrn and psw is admin for both. Then go to setup and follow the steps. Normally only need to input usr name and psw (from telkom). Remember to save your settings (Top left).

No need to set up new connection. You should be connected when you start up your pc.

The software on the CD is crap as it yust hangs halfway through the process on XP.

Thank arcam, I dont understand why every Telkom consultant tells me my dialup details will work then. what number must i dial to get a new user/pass? Im trying 0800 DSL DSL

Should work, yust takes forever. I went to one of their shops though. Maybe try your details then using the said procedure

If you are using our (Telkom's) 1 gig cap then your username and password stays the same as a dialup would. Looks the same eg: [email protected]

Depending on how your connecting to the router, either via usb or ethernet. there are different ways of going about... use the installation cd and leave the guest account in. or via ethernet, enter 10.0.0.2 into your browser, username and password is admin and admin

do the setup and on basic home you'll see it will say connected if it is successful.

then go to www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl and enter your telephone number and order number and it will verify, it takes about 30min once it has verified for everything to be ok. Once that is done, then enter your username and password into the router and voila bobs your uncle.

If you have any problems message me or something and ill get back to you.

I filled in my dialup details on the router page, other than that I dont think theres anything I need to do. Must I configure the browser settings also? I doubt it seeing as I cant even ping any site besides telkom. Im losing my mind listening to this telkom hold music!:(
