My dad works on a ship in Lisbon and unfortunately their IT guy on the ship isn't one of the best (I've had to help him out a couple times). But in this specific case I'm kinda clueless as well.

He has access to the internet on the ship (via sattelite) but he can't access https: sites to do his banking. How can he set this up?

I think they are probably blocking ports. So port 443 for https, might be blocked.

What Nod said.

ask him to try google mail (also works with https) and see if he is able to use google mail. If he cannot, then port 443 for https is blocked.

Ask him to do that first.

Chances are they go through a proxy ... get the admin to sort out SSL on the proxy.

Don't think it'll be easy ,i can't access Google mail at sea either.
Thats using Iridium network

Maybe something possible if there using Inmarsat A?

Be hard to find someone that would be able to help without charging an arm + a leg but maybe this guy may know.

Well, he can use his gmail account so it must be a different port that's blocked?

Will relay that to him, thanx w1z4rd. :)
