HELP! my dad was arrested.....

Surely you have like 24 hours to report something stolen? Kinda like you have to report an accident within 24 hours (Without getting a R500 fine).

No I think you have 30 days iirc

well my dad took the bike in december last year. so wish this was true cos man it sucks for him, Luckily the cell he is in is with 2 other white guys, 1 in for fraud and 1 in for shoplifting so seems quite lucky. i also reckon the investigating officer is being paid on the side, the other guy is quite a rich dude and when me and mom spoke to him earlier he wouldnt give us any information whatsoever.

Im sure my dad will be fine in the cell, managed to take him a pillow and blanket and jacket and smokes so he should be alright. If anything happens tho .. dont even want to think about it right now, just get the night over with and get him out tomorrow.

At the expense of someone spending a night in jail with real thieves/murderers. Good luck, let us know!

Yea thanks for all the help so far bud:) my mom has taken your previous extract and saved it for tomorrow incase she needs it. Thanks! will definitely keep everyone posted.

Every story has 10 sides, and then 10 more.
If your dad does not get bail, help him to survive being locked up. Not too much ciggies, you do not want to establish a standard, and if you do give him ciggies, tell him to hide his smokes and only bargain with about half of what he has.
No touching - Do not involuntarily "hi-5" someone or give a slap on the back after indulging in "free" marijuana. Any form of physical contact can and most probably will be seen as a challenge.
A source of money or any other valuables on the outside can make life easier for the prisoner on the inside, for example if you can provide a service like buying something for the friends or family of your father's inside buddies' outside family and friends.

Simple....get the station to get an affidavit from that guy as to when was the last time he saw / was in psossession of the bike. After that (and hopefully he gives a later date than what ur dad got it from him) then use ur dads pictures and show the time stamps on the pics (even if its a digital stamp as to when the file was created) and then ask how the hell that bike landed up in ur dads yard before that guy lost possession of the bike? Will screw him over badly.

Also tell tyhe investigating officer to inform that guy that they investigation him for laying a false charge and see what his reaction is. R100 says he wud withdrawel charges asap.

ok so my dad got bail.. was a rough last few days. 5k bail with terms. He has to report to the nearest police station every monday and friday to report in so they can see he isnt running away. gotta go back to court on the 9th of july. He is busy getting all the witnesses he possibly can, getting all the photographic proof.

Not sure what the outcome will be but im sure as long as my dad can prove the worth of the bike was not more than 20k then i dont see jail time happening. Might have a hefty fine to pay the other guy back but we hoping the witnesses will help prove my dad didnt steal the bike and then the guy should lose the case hopefully.

All i know is my dad is innocent. The bike was at the workshop when he took it, I mean who in their right mind would load the bike onto the back of the companies bakkie and steal it in front of all the mechanics and other staff members? Then still ask the staff member to drop it off at our house. It makes no logical sense and knowing my dad he has never done that and would never do that with something that had a good chance that it couldn't be repaired. I just really wish i could find out what condition he said the bike was in when my dad took it because the warrant officer wouldnt give us any details.

The only details i got were that the guy who laid the charge valued the bike at 50k. Now to put it this way a MINT condition one goes for around R60-70k MAX. In the 2 trommels full of rust there is no ways it could be valued at that much, not to mention many parts were missing. and its a 1970's bike so the chances of getting replacement parts will only happen if you import from the UK but they are quite pricy.

I still think this was a planned set-up in order to score either money or a bike for mahala.
