Hi there guys,

Was hoping someone could help me. We are in the process of buyinig a new printer. Interested in the Epson Pro 3800 or 4800. Is there anywhere i can go where i can actually see the product and inks and make an informed decision. As it stands now we are phoning places yet nobody actually has stock we could go look at, they just offer delivery. Would like to see it before we buy it.

have a look at some canon printers as well, they come highly recommended

When buying a printer, look at the printing cost of the printer and not the price of the printer.
How much are you going to print? what kinda stuff do you print (B&W vs Color)?

Saw some Epson R-range printers at the Digital Expo that uses external inktanks. Those looke interesting. Will find the info for you and post. the epson printer had 5 seperate ink tanks, seperate from the heads. That means if you run outa red, you can jsut repalce the red ink.

I currently still use an old HP 2300 printer that also utilizes 4 seperate ink cartridges.

We are a publishing company so we need a printer capable of printing high quality proofs.
As it stands now we have a 7 ink setup where we just replace the colour ink that runs out. We are looking to spend about 15k.

We print black and white as well as colour. Seems the 4800 would be more economical in regards to ink.

Good printers, I've had some issues with repair turnaround time though, 1 month just isn't acceptable.

Have you looked at Xerox yet?

I'd prefer to stick with what we know as Epson is the printer used within our industry for repro.

Spoke to Rectron and they told me to check here for the big ones; they don't do the small ones.... We are not registered there, but maybe somebody on this forum is and could hook you up? If not they will be able to refer you to somebody....

Thanks Conradl! Yes funny enough we just had a meeting with this company and we've pretty much settled on a Epson Pro 4800. Beautiful piece of machinery. :)

Thanks!!!
