Some time last week, we had a power outage and once the power was, restored our cordless phone began to act strange. It still powers up as normal and when we call the phone, it rings. However, when we try to answer the call, the phone stops ringing but we cannot hear anything on the other line. I called the phone using 2 cellphones and noticed that even though I answered the cordless phone, the cellphones didn't register that the call had been answered. If we hang up on the cordless phone without cutting the call on the cellphone, the cordless phones rings again the moment we cut the call on it. We also cannot make any calls using the cordless phone either. We are able to dial the numbers, but then there is no dial tone. However using an old phone (non cordless) everything seems to be working fine. I have phoned telkom to register a fault in the line, which they claim to have sorted out, but the cordless phone still gives the same problem. Can anyone please offer any assistance on the matter. Thanks

Get new cordless phones.. If a corded phone works fine then it can't be the line, so there is nothing for Telkom to fix..

Powersurge destroyed it when lights came on

But it:

Turns on
Still charges
Able to receive calls (but not answer)
"Find phone" function from base to phone works

This is a pretty odd outcome if it was power surge that caused the issue. Is it possible it may be another issue ?

Power surges can make weird things happen to electronics.. most electronics can have certain parts of it fail, whilst others carry on working..

Get new cordless phones and while you are at it, get some surge protector plugs to avoid the same thing happening in future..

Pretty odd for an electronic device to miss behave after a power surge? /s

Not feasible to attempt a repair ?

Not really.. thing to remember is, most electronics are designed in such a way that after the power supply some components are not in series.. this means that a single component can fail and others carry on working and this results in odd behaviour..
