Hi. I am using the K3715 USB modem, but since Thursday evening I cannot connect the modem to my desktop PC. It picks up the device and when asked to insert my pin and I click on OK, the computer freezes and after a longish wait VMC says there is no device connected. The modem is working fine as I am using it now, but on my laptop. Thanks in advance

Perhaps try to uninstall anything Vodafone related by using add/remove programs in windows control panel. Once that is done restart and plug modem in and let it reinstall the software. See if that perhaps helps?

Thanks for responding, but I have done that. I have also downloaded the new software from the vodacom website installed it and it still doesn't work. At first it did not pick up the device now it only freezes at the insert pin screen. I have phoned 155 as well, but the person I talked to couldn't help me.

I am also now out of ideas....I use linux so I not sure how to trouble shoot this further. If it is working on your laptop then it is not the modem that is faulty but something on your PC that is screwy. Did you install any software lately?

No it's a brand new pc. Got it about two weeks ago. So I've only updated all my software (via the modem in question) and installed a few games. And while I was busy playing an online game (WoW), it just stopped working.

Anyone else with suggestions? If no one else can help you, perhaps do a reinstall of windows? I know it is a schlep from when I used windows...takes a long time etc...but that should sort the problem out i would say. But wait and see if someone else on here perhaps can assist further.

Thanks, will do. I will wait on the other forumites for more help before I go that route...(lol now i got the RAS 619 error as I'm trying to reply)

Still using the the same modem, and my laptop. But it seems really unstable at the moment. Keeps disconnecting and have to connect quite a few times before it actually connects. I have done a system restore now as well (to the day before it stopped working). When I insert my modem into the USB it doesnt even ask for my pin now, but only says "searching for network".

That is very strange. How old is this modem? Relatively new model from Vodacom so cant be too old. I still dont think it is modem that is faulty but a software conflict somewhere. But you can also take it to Vodacare to be checked out.

Yeah i dont think it is the modem, it's only +/- 4 months old.

Hi

If its freezing the pc it could be using a process that is already in use , have you tried using all the ports on the pc try getting the USB drivers to uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks for the help everyone. It's working on my desktop now. I restored my pc to the day I got it, and now it's working. I dont know what program caused the problem though.

Hi

Could be an auto update that caused or antivirus blocking it as well.
