The need:
I am launching a magazine, and as such, it is a paid for e-mag.
I have a website for it, but I need to somehow have a system/software on that site that allows people to create an account, pay for their subs or single issue and then access the content they paid for.

I don't have a lot of money (yet) to throw at this, is there anything like this open source-wise or can someone assist me with this. The magazine is non-profit by the way, the money raised is used for community projects.

So I did some checking and I see its part of Media24, and I am not surprised, they are too big to give a flying turd about little old me.

Guess I will be doing this myself.

It might be easier (??) to consider a re-development in WordPress, Joomla or similar.

There are a number of plug-ins/extensions (for both) that do what you require.

It might also save you performing custom development in the future.

rrh is right. it might save you custom development but I have found a few times that using plugins is risky as the developers don't always keep the plugins updated, and because the plugin is public hackers find holes to get in and hack your website. Developing on wordpress is super fast. I wouldn't use Joomla. ( going to leave it at that as I don't want to sart a wordpress / Joomla war ). So you could either do custom development or use a plugin but make sure that its updated regularly.
