Hi All

Need you smart people to assist me(clueless one) :D to set up something for me.

I had it setup yesterday, but doesn't seem to work now. Want to pick up my external hard drive that's connected to my pc on Kodi.

I selected FTP within kodi, entered the server address and the port. As well as the username and password.

However I get a no connection could be established.

This is what I'm currently seeing on the pc, but Kodi doesn't want to connect to it, or sees it. Am I missing something?

You will have to clarify a bit. It's unclear if you have a kodi device and a pc or if you have kodi installed on the pc.

Either way ftp is not the way to go.

Apologies, I have a fire tv with kodi on it. However because the Fire Tv doesn't read my external drive, I'm now forced to play my content with my drive plugged into my pc.

In Kodi I can do SMB, FTP, UPNP etc, but I want to stream my content that's on my external via Kodi.

I had this set up, but not sure how I did it.

So basically External from PC to Kodi

Create an SMB or Windows file share and have the Kodi client access that?

uPNP (Not sure if Kodi recognizes windows upnp)
Add the content of the external to you windows media player library then go to "Media streaming options" to enable sharing. Not sure what the direct path is but you can just search for it.

SMB
Simply share the media folders on the drive through windows explorer.
Right click on folder
Share with -> Specific People
Type the username you will be logging in with from Kodi (I always use "guest" to simplify).
Click Add
Select permissions (Read and/or Write)
Click Share
Now you can access the share from kodi with the SMB protocol.

I'm trying SMB, but would I assume that the server name is my IP? Like I said, pretty clueless here lol

Yes it does. If kodi isn't able to connect to you pc do the following.
Go to control panel and open Network and Sharing Centre. Click on Change advanced sharing settings.

Turn on Network discovery
Turn on File and Printer Sharing
Turn on Sharing so anyone with network access can read...... (This assumes your on a private secure network)
Turn off password protected sharing (Also assumes you are on a private secure network)

Click Save Changes
