Hi Guys

I want to get uncapped ADSL at home (fibre not available yet), but I'm confused with all the pricing and info online as everyone tells me a different story.

Currently I have no physical line at all so one needs to be installed (probably by Telkom I guess) and I have no need for a phone - just need the ADSL part. Am planning to get a 4mbps uncapped line and use Axxess or Afrihost as ISP. I also have a new wireless router.

Telkom talks about monthly voice line rental fees, DSL rental fees, exchange connection fees, DSL connection fees - will I have to pay all these fees?

Just looking for a generic costs breakdown for the monthly fees as well as once off installation fees.

I'm in Durbanville if it makes any difference.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

You have to pay for voice regardless of whether you use it or not.

Monthly breakdown from my latest invoice:

Your Telephone Line 09 Feb 17 - 08 Mar 17 R165.79

Subscription Service 09 Feb 17 - 08 Mar 17 R0.00

DSL Faster 09 Feb 17 - 08 Mar 17 262.28

Then I pay for access and data separately.

Yes

Best to contact Telkom, some deals include a free router and installation.

Thanks for the info!

So you are paying R428 a month for the voice and ADSL rental and then lets say R400 for the uncapped 4mbps at your ISP?

488 incl VAT.

Then I pay Afrihost R99 for 100gb of data.

Shot, will have a chat with Telkom and see what deals they currently offer.

The other option is going 'wireless to home'. Some people in my area are using ISP Afrika and they offer uncapped 5mbps for R499 a month. Don't know how stable or worthwhile they are.

Also considering getting ADSL so this is very helpfull.

I was considering getting 100Gb of Home fatpipe from Vox (also R99) only because of the 6 month data rollover. Is Afrihost better?

Also, I will need a router. Want to consider a budget router. Anyone have a comment on the TP-LINKs TD-W8968 300Mbps Wireless N USB ADSL2+ Modem Router?
What router are you using livw88

I've got the Netgear WNDR4300 wireless router. Will link that up to whatever internet I eventually get.
