Need some advice.

This morning I log into an email account I haven't been using lately and find that not only has someone been using it, they have opened up a webafrica account (two actually) and let it run three months without paying..now imagine how shocked I was/still am..I mean it's sort of identity theft??

Now there is an amount of R420 outstanding and a threatening email saying I have to pay or thee will be interest charged.

I did not sign anything!! or agreed to anything in my personal capacity..

Usually with openweb, unpaid items fall away...they don't accrue..well that's my experience anyway.

I cancelled the email account (I should have done it sooner I know) as well as the accounts with webafrica. I explained to them what happened and now await an answer.

Does anyone have experience with this type of thing???

Please help.

ps. it maybe someone retarded idea of a practical joke...but I'm not sure

If someone was able to gain access to your account by guessing or finding your password, then you only have yourself to blame.

This is interesting.

You are the owner of the email account and are responsible for what that email account does.
My knowledge of our electronic communications law is disgusting though.

What is more alarming is the fact that there is no protection against this...so I can go around doing the same to others out of spite...hacking an email account is not that hard if you have the know how...

Hi Rocco

2 accounts were created but they were never activated as we were awaiting payment.
We can reverse the outstanding balance as the accounts were never activated.
If I can confirm should I remove both accounts with immediate effect.

Awaiting your feedback.
Thanking you in advance.

and creating a secure account password is not that hard either.

Sounds like a case of sour grapes.

Hi Rocco,

The account with WA has been terminated and the invoicing reversed. I believe from our side everything to be resolved. If you have any additional queries, you're most welcome to let us know.

Thanks!
