so i uselly don't over clock but tonight I wanted to try it....:(

to my frustration I found that my PC cant be over clock...which is obviously impossible . . . I make changes in the bios ( following April 2008 PCF advice) but when i boot into windows.... no changes have been made (using CPUZ V1.49) not even the shipped MSI core centre makes a difference...

please can someone give me some advice??

all you gotta do is look for settings with "FSB" in them, then fiddle, once you see something with the FSB of 333mhz change that SLOWLY and only increase the volts when you need the extra stability. and if CPU-Z says there's a volts reading for 1.49v then either it's every wrong or you did something that will fusk up your cpu

Silly question, but did you save the settings after the adjustments in the bios?

My settings for E8400 are as follows:

FSB 400
Multiplier 9
FSB strap to Northbridge 400
Ram Clock 400 (yours will be different you running DDR-3
CPU Voltahe 1.225V

heheh ja i did save then my computer shuts down and re clocks him self iam i go back to my bios and check and the setting, its currently on 353 FSB, but in windows cpuZ still reads :
core 2993 mhz
bus 332.5 Mhz
FSB 1330.1 Mhz

and i use a program from Intel a ID utility that also give stander readings even thou my bois is set differently (if i restart and check every thing still the same as i set it)

i just use the core center to try and clock the cpu, and i bumped it up to 666FSB @ 6Ghz and now it says its running @ that speed but obviously it isn't.... this is really weird

Core center sucks, don't use it. When you upped the FSB, check that the ram is not being overclocked as well, that will cause a problem. Set your fsb to 400, but keep the ram at its default speed, ie 1333 or 1600.

ja I tried that as well, when i set my FSB to 400 by Ram is set to 1600, which is the speed of my ram (although its runs @ 1333 now) its a 1:2 ratio...

my bios accepts the settings but it seems nothing gets carried over to windows... not even performance boots in Crysis CPU and siSandra ( i did dubble check if i saved hahah ja it is saved)

Uninstall Core Center, maybe its changing the settings back to standard when you boot into windows? What does the boot screen in the bios say while booting, does it show the new cp speed or the default 1?

jap I just uninstall it...but evidently when i tried windows could not nor would it start so I manually deleted the bastered... so it gone now and not stating up. boot screen read my new setting...

(i even set it to ridicules high settings and it accepted it but NO effect) this is really weird

Weird, I'm out of ideas, but if the boot screen read your settings right, I'm guessing its something in software that changes it in windows.

okay okay i got it now... hahah reset bios...its now @3334MHZ FSB 1482Mhz with CPU core running at 56 'C..???!!! anyway it seems i have to leave the Dram ratio to auto, but now my memory that is suppose to handle 1600mhz is running @ 444.6mhz 7,6,6,15 1T

56 idle? Thats too high, use realtemp to read the temperature, and when overclocking, don't let the mobo run the cpu voltage auto, set it manually, that cpu will run 3.6ghz @ 1.225. put your fsb up to 1600 (400*4), set ram to 1600, and tell me how it goes.

+1
Don't leave voltages set to auto, leave them on manual.

Have you got D.O.T disabled in the BIOS?

yes DOT is disabled!!!

ill give it a go to nite, its to damn hot now... but its clock @ 3091.6mhz bus @ 343.5mhz and FSB 1374mhz, but its unstable...test it with crysis cpu and siSandra (voltage @ auto 1.13V)
memory 687 1:2

I found Crysis to be an unstable game, and useless for testing stability, ..for ages I thought my CPU was unstable at it's current OC because Crysis would crash frequently-ish. However eventually I realised it would do the same no matter what the clock. It's Prime and OCCT stable for hoouuurrss.. other games too..
Could've just been my install tho..

I advise you to cross check your settings with googled results, ram(cpu voltage I meant) shouldn't be at auto tho imo..

yes its runs fine with farcry2 thou...mmm?! and prime ran for 3hours with no errors. its just the temps that worries me... real temp reading is 46'C idle

how much should i worry with temps with only this little overclocking?? its 56'C idle bus @343mhz

anyway who's reading should i trust more? core centre? real temp with TJ max at 105, idle calibration 0.0 ? or fan speed?
