hi all,

I have selected gmail as an email account on my imate jamin and it directed me through the settings and now appears as an account. but when i 'send and receive' it says it "cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings tap settings." When I do this it lists 4 opitons under the heading "Vodacom WAP 2.0" which are:

Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN connection
Edit my proxy server
Manage existing connnections

What do I do?

I also tried installing Gmail as a MIDlet but when I click on the Gmail icon that now appears in the MIDlet folder it says "this program requires a data connection. Please contact your carrier, or visit Gmail FAQ"

What do I do?

i think so - when I go to the internet explorer option and key in a url it does come up, and says while doing so that it is connecting to GPRS

Not sure what the problem is then tbh, sometimes using Gmail from the phone's email app causes problems because of the SSL connection etc, but the Gmail app should work, just check if there are different settings for java apps that need to be configured, haven't used the imate myself.

dude - now you've got me - "different settings for java apps"...yikes

On my SE if I go to connectivity it has both "Internet settings" for the phones built-in browser, email client etc. and then "Settings for java" which allows you to choose a different set of settings to use for java apps, just thought your imate may or may not have a similar system.
