Help Please!!!

Why do I get the impression that the garage door and the damage is more of a concern to you than your dog's welfare?

He's a living creature who relies on you to provide him with a safe environment dammit and if you can't do that you should not have pets!

Like i said the problem is when we are not home (Work). The music will make the neighbours mad.

The pic of the inside of the door, that’s him realizing that the garage is not the way to go he wants to be out. He got himself in and out.

Our house is built funny. The garage divides the flat and the house. Leaving the garage open or putting in a doggy door leaves the whole house open. We have sliding doors on the inside. ( And hubby has the whole Bosch range of toys, No way he is leaving it open and explaining to the insurance that we were cleaned out but the doors were open.

He has a nice comfy house outside.

And blonde one yes the garage door is a big concern, if i have to fix it every second week. Or lets leave it open then i'll leave your number when my blood is all over the floor or beter i get raped, then you can come clean it. Will that make you feel beter?

Great, so we'll just petition God to do away with thunder, shall we? Just to make it a nice safe environment. What else can she do? Build him a padded room?

Seriously, she's asking for help. If you have any actual ideas, please give them - I have a similar situation and would love any useful suggestions.

There's no need for sarcasm. I am merely saying that throughout this whole thread the OP has highlighted the damages caused to material things, not once has she voiced concern for the welfare of the dog or asked for help in preventing him from hurting himself.

The solutions are simple.
#1 Speak to a vet about calming pheromones
#2 Take the dog for training to build his confidence, this is a twofold solution as through training the owner will learn more about her dog and his needs
#3 Speak to a trainer about desensitizing techniques and apply them

All of the above will address the actual problem of the dog's fear. Confining him to an area where he can't cause damage does not solve the problem one bit, in fact it will make him more fearful.

The meds the vet gives will be worked out by the time the storms come.We leve home at 6:45.

We didn't lock him in the garage he forced his way in and then our again.

This is an old dog with an new issue. he doesn't have an confidence problem. Nothing wrong with him when we are home.

But thanks for the desensitizing advice i'll give that a try.

Why not consider re homing your dog to people who have the time to be with him and deal with his fear as arises? He will be a much happier dog and you won't have to deal with the destruction.

Try to understand that he is causing destruction because he is trying to get away from the noise of the thunder, it's got nothing to do with him having a nice comfy house outside or him trying to break into your house because he wants to sleep in comfort, he is scared and he is trying to find a way of escaping the noise.

As for your last ridiculous comment, I wish no harm to you or your family or your belongings, I am however trying to point out that your dog needs some kind of support from you otherwise you will never sort out the problem.

We have tried nobody wants him:(

and he makes me so angry but we still love him, it's his daddy's baby. So giving him to the SPCA or putting him to sleep will not happen.

But in the mean time we have electric fencing around everything that he can destroy.

We look like crazy people lol! but it works, it's the only thing he fear more than thunder.

My point was that there's only so much you can do to provide a safe environment. And there aren't always simple solutions - believe me, there are cases where none of those solutions work. My dog is one of them, and it sounds like adelp's is another.

Actually, the one thing that does help my dog is to confine him in the kitchen, since then he can't run through the house tearing up his paws. And then he does calm down ever so slightly - we're lucky, though, because we mostly get thunder at night when we're available to sit in the kitchen with him (although it's not fun going to work when you've been sitting on the kitchen floor with a manic dog from 1 to 3 in the morning!)

+ 100.

Isn't that advice for cats?
(

Works for dogs too.
Remember your dog wants to feel apart of the family and when u put some "sent" in his doghouse that would comfort the dog.
The music is just to counter the sound of the thunder and other stuff.(Debatable since its not that simple, but in any case)
And a cat does not have a doggy house :D it sleeps where ever it wants to.

Been there before. I used to wake up at about 2/3 in the morning with a large labrador ass in my face. Ex girlfriend's doggy was really scared. She drugged it and the dog calmed down. Summer was hell. Basically woke up every night with dog ass in my face! :(

LOLZ!!

Think adelp is also going to talk about her ex's stupid dog...soon.
