Hey guys, I hope there is someone who can help me with the issue I have!

I am running Win 7 X64 and recently my PC was struck by lightning. No major damage, but the NIC was stuffed. I bought a new Realtek NIC and installed yesterday. For some reason I am unable to connect to the Internet when using the LAN card. It only recognises it as a Unknown (public) network. When I do diagnostics on the NIC it says that the Interface has an invalid IP configuration.

I checked the settings and it is set to DHCP, but I am still unable to even connect to my router. when trying to connect to the router it times out and gives an error (not connected to the internet).

I looked for the latest drivers but was unable to get drivers for 64 bit OS. Not sure if that would make a difference? I reconnected the USB connection and now working fine, but slow, which is the main reason I replaced my NIC in the first place (seems USB is slower than LAN - or router is damaged as well)

Any help would really be appreciated!

Thanks guys

Do you get a link light on the NIC and or on the router when a lan cable connected?

Maybe Vista x64 drivers might work on x64 Win7

was your old network STATIC IP or DHCP from the router?

what is the ip currently on the replaced NIC? and do you remember what the previous IP was? Could be a case that your previous IP was static and not DHCP assigned.

I had the same problem with my pc's onboard NIC, sometimes it worked then all of a sardine it just says public network ( No Internet Access ). Turns out it was my driver so it's probably the same issue with you. If you can't find the 64bit from your vendors site try using windows update and see if it has the driver
