Does anyone know about the Consumer Protection Act. I need help please. My husband got a phone from Telkom Mobile on Contract in May. The phone started giving trouble in August and we sent it in for repairs. When we got the phone he noticed a little "bubble" (i call it that) on the left hand corner of the screen but disregarded it. I realise now how silly we were but with all the excitement he just ignored it. Then the phone started going purple in August (after 3 months) and then all black. We were now told the phone is out of warranty and we have to pay almost R3000 for the repair. And I am not willing to do that. I want to cancel the contract. Because it was not our mistake and one can clearly see the fault is inside the phone. For some or other reason they don't see it. And this was after we had a screaming match for someone to contact us for 3 weeks now almost.
I just need to know what my rights are to cancel this contract because we are fighting a losing battle. Maybe someone will know.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, reporting an issue outside the warrenty date is not going to fly, no matter how long ago the issue started. It's like taking a 1990 Ford Cortina to the dealership to complain about an engine issue that started the day it was bought.

While I understand that the issue is the fault of the repair guys, it's your duty to report it in a decent time frame.

It's a shame but I don't think you're going to get anywhere.
