Help ps3 or xbox 360

Is this hd performance for ps3 or both. Have you streamed hd movies through you xbox?

i was referring to the ps3 with bluray movies :)
i tried streaming some hd stuff to both consoles (trailers from apple) but they just didnt work on either. apparently theres some process u can try to get them to play, but my important videos (series etc) are in sd (widescreen) so i didnt bother, as they play nicely on the xbox :o

I have a PS3 as a media device. After the last firmware update that added official DivX support I have not had any problems playing files. Xvid as well. They play beautifully.

Good quality photos viewed via a PS3 on a HD large screen are seriously WOW. The downside of this is that any flaws in your photography are very obvious. The PS3 has excellent photos display capability. Thats big deal for me as we have tons of digital photos that the family can now view. Dont know what its like of the Xbox but other sources on the net have rated the PS3 above the Xbox for that.(dont have a link right now)

Blue ray(HD) looks so good on the right screen at the right distance that you never want to watch normal SD material again. It comes included in the PS3 deal. So you are up to date now and the PS3 is firmware upgradeable so you are catered for new developments as well.

Oh by the way apparently it plays games really well. Not many out now, but many are coming. GT5 is going to the first one that I am going to get hooked on. I got a 60 gig so the kids can play the older PS2 stuff as well.

My synopsis. (massive flame suit being donned)If you are or married and/or have kids or, have a life, etc get the PS3. You dont need a 24/7 companion you already have one/some. The lack of a massive range of games is not going to kill you. Besides they are coming anyway. The media features are probably more important to you, the included bluray player is a winner.

If you are a sweaty teenager/adult with skin almost translucent due to lack of sun exposure/hard core gamer/ with nothing to do with your time right of this minute and want the best range of games this second, right now, immediately, to stop you from being bored and killing the neighbours the Xbox it has to be.

My 2c and I am running far and hard from all the gun toting Xbox fan boys. :p:p:p:p:p

I think my wife would have a word with you about that comment, Especially since she made the choose of Xbox over PS3 :D (those here who know her know she is far from the above)

Its all personal opinion and everyone will defend what they have tooth and nail (myself included). The guys who have them both though seem to all agree that both have their pro's and con's.

I honestly do not get this opinion. How does buying a console for it's original intended use (yes, to play games) as opposed to a media player imply that one is a "hardcore gamer"?

I have no use for a high def player and have little time for gaming due to having busy schedule (ie. not a "sweaty translucent game obsessed teen") so I decided to pick up the console which would best accommodate my needs v.s. the price point, i.e. the 360.

This is the age old argument of PC vs consoles, but in a new jacket.

We all know that Xbox360 is going to kick PS3 arse this year AGAIN.:D

With Gears of War 2 being confirmed now as an exclusive for 360 and their challenge to PS3 in regards to the graphics of GOW2.
We must also understand that the ports from 360 to Pc is only happening because of MS.

And as I said in another thread, exclusives will becoming fewer and fewer as money talks and I am with MS at this stage as they are making a profit ontheir consoles and I dont think that PS3 is even seeing that as of yet.
As for the current Exclusives for Ps3 (MGS & FFXIII) I am sure is because of past agreements with Sony and we all know that Metal Gear Solid Is going to be awesome, but it is the last installment for that franchise but dont be surprised if we see Hideo Kohima create a game for multiplatform gaming.
Also look at the fact that Square Enix is making a rpg for the 360.
They will be making games fo the 360 because they need to get cash in to help out with their exclusive Final Fantasy 13.

Dont be surprised if you see Final Fantasy franchise on the 360 within the next 3 years.

Exclusives will only be coming from the console with the funding and from what I can see it will be Wii and 360.

So if your argument is the fact that Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy is exclusive to PS3, you are right. HOWEVER...those are 2 titles out of how many for the 360?

Make mine a 360! :D

Hmm,

The one bit I do disagree on, is that if the official Final Fantasy brand goes anywhere, it's more likely to be the Wii. I read an interview with the SE guys about 2 years back where they explicitly said that FF goes to the biggest market. That's why DQ now calls the DS home.

Some people love these PS franchises! Personally I find them not only tired, but I didn't like the first ones on the PSone, so there's little hope for me and the latest iterations.

Anyone watched the Fable 2 video from GDC? The mind boggles! A 'hardcore' game designed to be able to play with your wife or kid, blew my mind. It's already on mental preorder. As for Gears - I start giggling like a little sister when I ponder the possibility of a fight with 600 locusts in destructible environment. To quote Neo "We need guns. Lots of guns" :D

Anarchy, if you're still in turmoil do this. How often do you buy games? I buy maybe 6-8 a year (I trade for the rest) Go through the games that strike you on both consoles and make lists of the ones you would buy this year and compare the lists.

Now that is the biggest load of drivel.

I have had the displeasure of reading many illogical reasons for someone's choice but that was sad.

If anyone thinks you can judge a person by the console they bought then they have another thing coming.

Please don't take it seriously. It was very tongue in cheek.

@DOOBIWAN
What I implied is that the Franchise will be multiplatform.
Final Fantasy 3 on DS and then followed shortly with the Final Fantasy Revenant Wings and FFVII Crisis Core for the PSP.
With Last Remnant for PS3 and 360 I m sure that SE is looking to gop multiplatform adn the 360 sorely needs a good solid JRPG as there is a STRONG following for that genre on the 360.

As for Fable 2! OMG!!! What is interesting is the multiplayer option, the options are endless with your mate affecting the entire game with one action.

Its just a game. Its just a gaming consul, a way to pass the time. Its not life and death is it?:)

Your asking to open a can of worms here.. Prepared to get blasted from both sides by telling you why theirs is better.

Mmmmh i see what you mean..lol. Crazy S*#t. Ihave dont more research on the consoles...Should hopefully made my mind up in 2 weeks time when i get home. Hey read about the softmod on the 360. Has anyone tried it....does this void the warranty? Also can you change out the HDD on the 360.

I am not too keen on modding at the best of times.
It never really works and with Cash Crusaders and game trading companies like www.tgx.co.za, The Hub and Play Pen there is very little need to mod consoles these days.

Firstly yes you can swap the 360 harddrive, but only for other 360 drives (comes in 20Gb and 120Gb)

Secondly it's very unwise to chip a 360. Any time the box goes online or a new firmware comes on a game disc it will be detected and your console banned from Live!, if not outright bricked.

Besides, with rent and trade you really don't need to.

Modding an Xbox will indeed void your warranty (unless you are sneaky enough to remove certain stickers intact).

Going to have to disagree on the Live bans though. There are currently 2 versions of custom firmware available. Xtreme and iXtreme with the latter providing protecting against all current methods of detecting backups (and a few future ones) so you are safe for now playing "backups" with that. The former (Xtreme) contains a bunch of nice features but is easily detectable by Live's current protection.

That said, if you don't know what you are doing don't even look into modding your 360 if you don't know what you are doing. You'll likely just end up being banned from the Live service or worse, bricking your drive.

Ps3,ps3,ps3,ps3

I would wait on the PS3. My friend who works at Sony UK says that they going to launch an 80gig version as they discontinued the 60gig version.

80gig one is going to have everything the 60gig one did and more for about the same price.

Then he might as well "wait" for the xbox to release a version with BR drive :)

Its still really a matter of personal choice. Both are damn good, and both have problems
