Hi Guys

Sorry if this has already been posted....i have searched but to revert to this.So i am in the finanical position to purchase the ps3 or xbox 360.I have read up on both of the consoles but still cant make my mind up. Xbox has loads of great titles....but the red rings of death quite frankly petrifies me. PS3 on the other hand seems more stable in regards to console death but titles arent so exciting as the xbox's. The "media center" of the PS3 sounds outstanding compare to the Xbox. One cannot over look the price difference.....damn.So what are you guys opinion......which way to go.
PS3 or XBOX 360.:confused::confused::confused:

Thanks

Your asking to open a can of worms here.. Prepared to get blasted from both sides by telling you why theirs is better.

Might as well start though .. Get the Xbox. No reason other than a personal one. I dont like the PS3 and love my Xbox.

The killer PS3 games, like GT and Tekken etc... are only going to be released in a couple of months. That's why I am waiting for a price deduction to buy myself a PS3...

So i'd say get the PS3....

If you have a gaming pc already get the ps3 if you don't get a 360.

ok so i got both the consoles, and the PS3 SUCKS!!! i cant get nice titles, and if i can they cost an arm and a leg. Really the xbox is much better atm, tho i do think the cool PS3 titles will come. Maybe then i will change my view, but for now XBOX all the way :)

Why do you say that? I've got a gaming PC and the Xbox and love them both.

So does my wife since the Xbox is basically our Media center and she watches movies streamed from my PC while i'm playing games?

Seriously though, why the PC+Ps3 reason?

I'll start with the peace keeping statement. Chose the console based on the games/content you want. If you like 'playstation' games get a PS3, if you like PC/360 titles get a 360.

Having said that I'm a well known, card carrying, 360 fanboy. ;) I even have a blog to that effect :$ So take this whence it comes.

The 2008 360 games catalogue sends tingles down my spine. It's not as high profile as the Playstation, but I just can't find anything exclusive that excites me that much in the PS3 catalogue. Online wise it's almost a no contest, Live! is the benchmark. PSN is improving, but so is Live! Multiplatform games also typically play better on 360. The gap is closing rapidly and the differences are usually almost unnoticeable.

Anarchy, if RRoD is your worry, then don't worry. South African support policy is better than the US. If you have any issue with your 360, you can take it back to where you bought it and swap it immediately for a new one under warranty, which is 3 years against RRoD.

I would however recommend you try and get one with HDMI - that's how you know that they have the upgraded thermals which was what caused the RRoD. That's the Arcade, the Elite, the Mongoose and Some of the PRo's (the say so on the back of the box it'll have the HDMI logo)

But as I said it's about individual taste in games more than anything else. FF, MGS, LBP, Killzone2, Resistance2, GT5, I'm sure they'll be good, but none of them make me want a PS3. Gears of War 2, well, I switched from PC to console for Gears of War 1 (And I nearly wet myself over yesterdays tech demo) But Fable 2, Alan Wake, Too Human, Banjo Kazooie 3, Stargate & Warhammer online, all look awesome, with new twists on established ideas. Oh and how could I forget Project offset! Never has there been a more juicy a secret ;)

Even my most recent obsession Frontlines, what a surprise - Since I've started playing the MP demo, Call of Duty feels like Duck hunt :p (It's what BF2142 should have been)

EDIT:
PC/360 - non argument http://gamerza.blogspot.com/2008/02/why-console.html
Media Centre - 360 is designed to share media, PS3 is designed to store it.

Hehehe...this is one of those loaded threads...

Well if youahve the money buy both, if like the soem of us you dont...well then I suggest that you see what titles are out at the moment and look at the cost and then decide.
The PS3 price might not come down and rumour has it that theyr are looking at the ps4 already.
As you have guessed I own a 360 and VERY happy with it!

My suggestion is go find people have have them and go play on them both. See for yourself. Then decide.

Because pc plenty of pc titles end up on 360 and plenty 360 titles end up on pc as well. Sometimes later, but usually with extra content.

I made the distinction so the RANGE of titles is as big as possible.

That would make sense. Though I would also have to find a new wife then because I would end up in a divorce court since I would have to many games to play and not have enough "wife time"

I had the same question in Jan...I ended up buying a Ps3 80gig..The only problem now is that i don't have time for gaming and when i do i keep finding myself playin assasins creed on my mate's Xbox 360 elite...Weird!!

i too have both, the ps3 is sort of collecting dust right now, reasons follow:
1) games - there arent really any games out on ps3 right now that call me out, and as phiber said, those games that look interesting are expensive, i mean, uncharted for R620+, WTF? to date i still only have the resistance and motorstorm that came with the ps3, both of which bore the living crap out of me, and i only ever bought one game, fifa08. since getting the ps3 i have bought 3 xbox360 games ;)

2) media player - i still use my xbox360 for streaming media, because quite simply, the ps3 doesnt support all xvid videos. even with tversity installed, some media just doesnt play, unless u set tversity to transcode always, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of xvid support.
Also, videos are a bit "blocky" on the xbox360 as opposed to the ps3 which plays them smoother, but the colours and contrast on the xbox360 are more vivid, so u see a tad bit more detail on the xbox360. but maybe this has something to do with my tv settings, havent played around with them yet.

3) i recently got a dolby digital surround sound system, and for some obscure reason the sound from the xbox360 sounds much better than from the ps3. both consoles connect to the receiver using optical cables, dolby digital on, but ps3 output sounds lacking compared to xbox360, its just not as clear and smooth.

But the ps3 also has pros going for it though:
1) its much quieter than the xbox360, but mine is a first gen xbox so i dont know what kind of noise levels the new xbox360s make, but mine is super loud, especially when its reading a game disk  but the sound is quickly drowned by the above mentioned sound system ;)

2) the built in wifi is very convenient. because i didnt want to fork out R900+ for a wifi thingy for the xbox360, i just used a separate wireless access point to connect it to the internet (wireless adsl modem is in anothe room, cant run a cable), which meant more clutter and more wires. ps3 was just easy peasy connect to existing wireless network and voila, bob was my uncle ;)

3) if u have a hdtv then the hd movies will simply blow u away. i mean, u can see the little drops of sweat on peoples foreheads, uber cool. that being said tho, as mentioned before apparently microsoft will bring bluray to xbox, so ja.

good luck making your choice tho, hope my little bit of info helps :)

Im a fanboi, have 12 PS3 titles- love em to bits (uncharted rocks!)
Played Halo 3 once, didnt blow me away as much as resistence did.
get a PS3:)

Playing Halo once is not exactly fair critique, but then again that sums up my time with Resistance ;)

Personally Frontlines owns them both, but I love battlefield style sandbox games so I'm biased there too.

Is this hd performance for ps3 or both. Have you streamed hd movies through you xbox?

I have to say it depends on which games you prefer.

Up to now the dual platform games have either been better on the 360 or the same.
The 360 exclusives have been better though.

However if you are interested in Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Killzone 2, Haze or Resistance 2 then get the PS3

The 360 has coming Battlefied: Bad Company, Gears of War 2, ALone in the Dark (timed), lost odyssey which will add on to the considerable back catalogue of Gears of War, Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect...

So yeah.. choose the one that has the games that you want.

Some thing to note though the 40GB can not play PS2 games, and this won't be fixed by a patch like some people are implying, and the rumbling controller is only expected to land in March.

The 360 still suffers with reliability issues and don't expect Live to be officially supported anytime soon.
