Hi guys

I am wanting to get a desktop pc at the end of year. It has to run BF3 on medium.

Preferably below R8000 range. I am not sure what to get, so maybe you guys can point me in the right direction

I do not need a monitor or anything, just the tower.

I am not that clued up, so much help needed.

Thanks a lot man :) What about a Geforce 4400GT? no ways? haha

You most probably can get the above components for cheaper, I just worked out this setup from one site just to give you an idea. Good Luck :)

How is the gtx550ti against the 560ti. Any great difference. Because i can get the 550ti for R1 100. Also is there a major difference between the sandy bridge i series and the normal i series.
tnx

Sandy Bridge replaced the first generation i-series.

550Ti is like a GTX 450. The 560Ti replaces the 460 GTX.

Pretty much what is quoted above is what I would recommend.

I would consider going for a cheaper chassis such as the CoolerMaster Elite 371 and dropping the CPU to just the 2500 (Non K) to save a few Rands though. You then have about another R1 000 or so to spend on a graphics card.

I'd get the Antec HCG 620W over the Corsair GS 600W, and save some money in the process.

CPU
AMD Phenom2 x4 , Quad-core 965 ->R1,412.61

mOTHERBOARD
Asus M5A78L-M -->R825.52

GPU
EVGA GTX570 HD 1280MB -->R3,588.43

PSU
Antec HCG ( High Current Gamer ) 620w-->R812.34

RAM
Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 / CMX4GX3M2B1600C9 , XM -->R345.06

CASE
Antec 300AB ( Three Hundred )-->R679.35

COOLER
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus -->R280.36

HDD
Western Digital caviar black -->R664.97

Now for much cheaper you get a pc thats thumbs the gaming performance of the above. Why? Because gaming its gaming!
No 1 your gpu. Its more important than your cpu. All you need is a cpu that can keep up. Unless your running ultra low resolutions.
The 570 will run nearly any game at 1920 x 1200 (or 1080 for 1080p) maxed out, with less or more AA/AF, depending on the game, as well as most games at 2560 x 1600, although with lowered details in some games.

Whats up with these huge 750w psus for a card that only needs 450w cmon dont waste your dough. That spu wont be effecient running on such a low load
Go here for the psu requirements

This is BF3 showing the differences between a Amd x4 965 and a 2600k

Tell me what difference does that 2600k have over the 965 in gaming? Nothing. With the 580 the 965 actually performed better at 1920. Which means? Your gpu will determine you gaming experience not your cpu. Once your gpu is costing less than that cpu then theres something wrong

Theres no really upgrade path the 6870. You dont want to waste your money in CFx that gpu later trust me

Micro stutter.

Yeah I was thinking of quoting him the non k series, but on rebeltech is only saves like R20 so it's not really worth it, not sure about the case though seems like a good compromise. Also agreed that he should get a much better GPU than the 6850.

Hey guys

is this OK for bf3 to run smoothly on medium graphics?
Power supply: Corsair Gaming Series GS500 High Performance 80+ PSU
Processor: Intel Core i3-2120 (3.3GHz, 3M Cache, 2x Cores) CPU
Motherboard: ntel H61 Chipset LGA 1155 Sandy Bridge Motherboard
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz High Performance RAM
SOund: Integrated 6 Channel HD Audio (not a big issue)

I would not go dual core for gaming. Bump it up to the 2400 perhaps.

Nope not a good pc for bf 3 gaming at all.

You need something like a 2400, plus a cheap 1k mobo and don't get a 560ti, so many issues with bf 3 and in general for some reason.

Nope but a 550 is a pushing the limits i think, everything on low and 35 frames is going to suck badly. Are you open to ati or only nvidia?

P8H67-MLX ASUS P8H67-M LX - INTEL H67 CHIPSET (NEW B3 STEPPING) - LGA 1155 FOR INTEL 2ND GENERATION CORE I7 / CORE I5 AND CORE I3 PROCESSORS - MICRO ATX FORM FACTOR, 2X DDR3 (MAX 16GB 1333MHZ), 1X PCI EXPRESS 2.0 X16, 1X PCI EXPRESS 2.0 X4, 2X PCI, 4X SATA (RAID 0,1,5,10) 2X SATA 6GB/S, 14X USB 2.0, 10/100/1000 GB LAN, ALC887 8 CHANNEL HIGH DEF AUDIO, BACK PANEL: 1X PS2 MOUSE, 1X VGA, 1X DVI, 6X USB 2.0, 1X LAN (RJ45) 3 AUDIO JACKS

Perhaps something like that for 1k, pada and so on can lambast my bum if it's a crap mobo for a budget pc :D.

Rather wait closer to the time. (hopefully by then cheaper hard drive prices as well)

As Killa said below, bf3 get bottlenecked on a dual core, when I upgraded to quad I got a lot more frames and less issues with loading and in game.

Also 8 gigs over 4 gigs for bf3 then the maps load fast and not after your team have already taken the first flag and all the vehicles.

SSD also works and is insanely fast.
